Dude?
New research shows folk medicine from Africa may hold the key to treating wounds that defy modern medicine.
A study found granulated sugar poured directly into bed sores, leg ulcers and even amputations promotes healing when antibiotics and other treatments have failed.
The study is headed by Moses Murandu, a senior lecturer in adult nursing at Wolverhampton University, who grew up in Zimbabwe where his father used sugar to heal wounds and reduce pain when he was a child.

I love how the photo they used is of a bag of artificial sweetener.
The Daily Mail’s attention to detail is second to none.

A Betadine and granulated sugar mixture in a wound is known by almost every medical student for 20 or 30 years. At least where I trained.

Honey is even better. It suffocates bacteria that require oxygen. A dead body sealed in a container filled with honey will last for centuries with no decay.

@ BL@KBIRD, I’d always wondered how Cher pulled it off.

I remember reading about using powdered sugar and iodine for bedsores of comatose patients…and this was back in the 1980′s.

My brother’s skin cancer doctor at MD Anderson Hospital in Houston has told him to put sugar in a wound on his hip.

Pour some sugar on me
Ooh, in the name of healing
Pour some sugar on me
C’mon, fix me up
Pour your sugar on me
Oh, I can’t get enough
I’m hot, sticky sweet
From my head to my feet, yeah
I guess we will all experience this as ØbamaCare kicks in…

Would plastic wrap be just as good? I was brought up being told that wounds needed air so they wouldn’t get infected. I’ve used waterproof band-aids in the past but have always removed them asap in order to get air to the wound. Maybe next time I’ll leave it on longer to see what happens.

Someone I know with a nasty infection has been putting salt in the wound. Yes, that’s what the doctors have her doing. (It’s a sodium solution in a gel.)
It depends on the kind of bacteria. The doctor was worried for a bit she wasn’t getting enough oxygen to the wound. (They were going to put her in a pressure chamber.)
