Same old, same old: Let’s face it, Obama blew an opportunity last night
The president has only a few opportunities to speak to the nation, and he blew this one. It was so hackish, so devoid of any theme or purpose, that it makes one wonder whether part of Obama just wants to see how bad he can be before his cultists in the news media can see it. Every speech is exactly what they wish it to be, regardless of reality. His mainstream inaugural speech was treated as a liberal call to arms when it was no such thing. Of course, conservatives thought that. If Obama had announced he just joined the Tea Party, Rush Limbaugh would have seen it as proof that he was a socialist. But why liberals would confuse a boilerplate middle-of-the-road inaugural speech with Das Kapital will be forever befuddling.
Contrary to the claims of both sides, Obama is not a liberal visionary with deep desires to institute a progressive agenda. If he is, he’s a miserable failure. You need look no further than his own record (starting with foreign policy) and then Tuesday night’s speech for evidence. Banalities and tropes are not a governing philosophy or a plan. The immigration piece was good, but hardly a profile in courage. After all, even the GOP wants immigration reform now. There is also the small fact that Obama promised to deal with immigration in his first term.
The edict on climate change was despotic, not liberal. I believe climate change is a problem and humans contribute to it. However, ‘either do what I say or I will just start issuing executive orders’ that make green energy companies rich is not the kind of governing we should be lauding, regardless of party or ideological bent.

I don’t know why this wasn’t used against him in the campaign – especially since Republicans had no intention of sticking to the no amnesty position anyway. So they missed an opportunity to hammer Obama when it counted, and then rolled over almost immediately after the election. And then party guys try to blame the Tea Party for losing.

Sorry, Kirsten, but he’s a hard-core Leftist. You’re right that he is a miserable failure but he only in that he hasn’t achived full-on socialism. He’s moved this country far enough in the wrong direction that it will take a power washer to scrub the mess clean.
Bitter Clinger on February 13, 2013 at 8:07 AM
Don’t think KP thought too much of that speech.
Glad I missed it.

That’s true. Barky’s a brain-dead idiot who’s out to destroy America. He couldn’t care less about politics or governance, partly because he’s just too stupid to understand any of it but mostly because all he ever wanted to do was exact some deluded, demented third-world sense of revenge on America and Americans. Ordinarily, he would have been stopped dead in his tracks as he thrashed our Constitution and made a mockery of our traditions and institutions, but the cowardly GOP don’t have the guts or brains to stand up for America and have let the Indonesian run wild and carry out his destruction without having to worry about any opposition fighting back. Even the biggest idiot in the world (which Barky certainly is) can take down the most advanced, complex machine … if allowed enough power. Destruction takes no skill, just power, and the GOP has let him have that. Barky should have been impeached and tossed out of office long, long ago. He should be donning an orange jumpsuit by now. Instead, he carries on freely with his destruction.

One of the Mexican stations nailed him on this shortly before the election.
It did get some airtime, but US press pretty much ignored it. As they have for so much on the truth of Obama.

I think she is the only lib who didn’t rave about the speech
cmsinaz on February 13, 2013 at 8:16 AM
I did not watch – I am done with watching Obama – zero – nadda – no more.
jake-the-goose on February 13, 2013 at 8:18 AM
I’m pretty sure if he wanted to talk to the nation some more, he could do so. But that’s OK with me if he doesn’t bcs he never has anything to say no matter how long he blathers.
The Progressive Agenda is a miserable failure. And it is Obama’s desire to implement it.
Dumba$$ woman. Geebus how many times does socialism/communism need to be examined before one concludes it is the miserable failure of human society?
Climate change is a problem if you can’t adapt to it & go extinct.
And no my dear, humans do not contribute to the entire planet’s changing climate.
IT is reasonable to say we can influence microclimates.
But whatever. IDK really who this woman is, but while she excoriates Obama, she’s still got blinders on about these kinds of people.

Eh, big deal, America blew its opportunity last November…
Rogue on February 13, 2013 at 8:22 AM
True, Bark is a tinpot wanna-be who would sell his withered soul to get Congress and the American people out of the decision making process. The man is so full of himself he probably admires his own craps before flushing.
Bishop on February 13, 2013 at 8:22 AM
Yes, KP, lest we think you were no longer desiring to be a Lib, your irrelevant dig at a prominent conservative talker proved it.
Every one of Obama’s speeches are the same…how this takes 5 years to perceive, even from the most ardent supporter, is disturbing.

He also welcomed illegals into the SOTU. Is Kirsten as offended by that action as she is by Dr. Ben Carsons speech?
ctmom on February 13, 2013 at 8:25 AM
Yep. Couldn’t keep the idiot’s face off of TV for the first few years. He was taking over every show and pre-empting everything he could just to tell his stupid, transparent lies and then to whine about not having convinced people. I can’t even count the number of times he took free airtime to spout meaningless, deceitful BS about his health care destruction plan. What an idiot. There was a time when you couldn’t turn on a TV without having to see his ugly mug lying about something new.
ThePrimordialOrderedPair on February 13, 2013 at 8:39 AM
Obama refers to illegal aliens as undocumented workers, as if they have every right to be here and they just need to bring their paperwork up to date. He has no respect for the Rule of Law.

Says one of Obama’s media cultists. I remember seeing Powers for the first time back in 2008, talking about Obama on t.v. I assumed from her comments that she was a paid Obama campaign staffer. When she was identified as an “independent” analyst, I laughed out loud.
Obama is the same clueless fraud he’s always been. The fact that it took Powers five years to see what was right in front of her face tells you everthing you need to know about her.
AZCoyote on February 13, 2013 at 8:44 AM

You’re kidding, right? They don’t want to be constantly accused of “racism” for even the least criticism of a thin-skinned narcissist who has been mailing it in since he first lifted his arrogant face to the heavens at the 2009 inauguration. Ø and his cronies know that the way to get votes is to buy them. That’s what entitlements are all about and expanding them, even if the nation cannot afford them, will buy more votes from even more constituencies.
.
Her analysis doesn’t even approach reality. HUMBUG!
ExpressoBold on February 13, 2013 at 8:52 AM
It’s the only thing he’s ever worked hard at.
Badger40 on February 13, 2013 at 8:54 AM
The whole problem is the “new normal” $1T+ yearly deficits, which Obama is completely ignoring. He only gives lip service to deficit reduction. So nothing else he says matters. It’s remarkable how he can speak for an hour and say absolutely nothing.
Paul-Cincy on February 13, 2013 at 9:08 AM
His words are devoid of content. They don’t mean anything.
Paul-Cincy on February 13, 2013 at 9:10 AM
If he was working for a corporation and they reviewed Obama’s last 5 years and had to decide whether to keep him another 4 years, the answer would be, “HELL, no”. He would have been canned after 1 year. Maybe after 6 months.
Paul-Cincy on February 13, 2013 at 9:12 AM
There is no evidence of “climate change”.
One might ask: What should the climate be? What isn’t “extreme” weather?

I think Palin said all there was to say about the SOTU last night:

The inaugural sounded like a campaign speech, and this one too, judging from the sound bites. No I cannot stomach watching the whole thing. Instead I spent an hour figuring out the only obvious chess move I could make; and looking at pictures online of spring flowers.
Kristin :I think Obama still can’t say what he wants to do as a Progressive, he just sends his minions out to transform the administrative part of the government to do his bidding and contemplates presidential orders he can decree in secret. He is hoping he can get back the House and get his full way, and he doesn’t want to spoil that leaking out the facts.
Fleuries on February 13, 2013 at 9:59 AM
Gosh, I can’t get past Kirsten’s stupidity. Presidents can give a speech a day and they’ll be reported on. KP is at least willing to criticize Dear Liar for hypocrisy, I’ll give her that, but then in the next breath she’ll say something so dumb it drives me up the wall.

She’s right about several things in this column. In so many words, she has declared Obama an Emperor With No Clothes On, and the media as his sycophants who keep exclaiming about his beautiful robes. He is not a visionary, he is a mediocrity who was latched on to by some people who unfortunately ARE hardcore lefists, but their ideas and prescriptions are proving for all time to be failures.
