Rubio: I’m okay with Karl Rove’s new “Conservative Victory Project”
I want to say a couple things in fairness. Karl Rove was one of my earliest supporters even when I was thirty points down in the polls he wrote me a check, he told people he was supporting me, he helped me in my race and I was thirty or forty points down. That’s important for fairness to say that. Ultimately, when I was the nominee American Crossroads came in to Florida and spent a lot of money on my candidacy and we’re grateful for that. But by the same token, I would not have been elected without Tea Party support. I would not have had a chance to even win the Primary without all these folks out there who rallied to the cause of defending our Constitution, limiting government and supporting our traditional values and I’m forever grateful for that as well. They both have a place in American politics. I think the concern that people have is that somehow people in Washington in the Beltway are going to decide that someone can’t get elected. That’s the argument they used against me and I don’t believe that’s Karl Rove’s intention but I think the concern that people have is that people from Washington are going to come in and decided ‘so and so’ is unelectable, somebody else is more electable we have to go with them and I think that’s a valid concern. There have been some candidates that have been nominated that have not done well in the General Election stage. Perhaps we need to do a better job working through that to ensure that doesn’t happen in the future but I also think we have to be very careful that we’re not discouraging grassroots types candidates from running because often times they get elected and do a pretty good job.

“… Mittens Romney and Juan McCain being the two most disastrous examples.” That IS the point being made here, right…?
Kent18 on February 13, 2013 at 12:16 PM
Imagine, being gracious. Now cue all the “he should DIE” loons who forgot that when he was running for reelection that Señor Juan Mcainez was “okay” for Queen Tea Party.
Marcus on February 13, 2013 at 12:17 PM
Might make sense to see what this guy’s game actually is before unloading on him.
It still isn’t clear what his immigration game is. McCain and Graham have crystal clear positions – full amnesty, and shut up racist.
Rubio? Not clear that he really wants that.
CorporatePiggy on February 13, 2013 at 12:19 PM
Why does this feel like the scene in which the Emperor tries to turn Luke to the dark side?
Theworldisnotenough on February 13, 2013 at 12:25 PM
Rubio had the tea party (grassroots) support, a major factor that won him the race. Yet Rubio only paid lip service for their contribution.
Once he’s in, he couldn’t distance himself far enough from tp ever since.
Sir Napsalot on February 13, 2013 at 12:26 PM
Of course its clear that Rubio wants full amnesty, he’s endorsed a plan that permanently legalizes all 11 million on Day One, without any conditions.
Jon0815 on February 13, 2013 at 12:31 PM
We actually know exactly where Rubio stands – he has been working hand-in-hand with McCain and Graham and the ‘Gang of 8′ to craft their ‘instant amnesty’ bill (grants instant amnesty to all illegals while the “details” of border security are being “discussed”).

one really has to question the intellect of rubio supporters. hillary is going to wipe the floor with him.
renalin on February 13, 2013 at 12:39 PM
If El Uno likes Karl Rove’s group, then Karl Rove’s group is conservative. QED.
It’s the same way that amnesty is now the default conservative position after El Uno decreed it. Only purity obsessed TruCons would dare criticize El Uno.

… at which point, Karl Rove (and the online CINO apologia choir) will promptly blame Sarah Palin for the loss.
Or Todd Aikin. Whichever’s easier.
Kent18 on February 13, 2013 at 12:44 PM
Saw in the other thread you were quite boastful you “wanted Obama to win” In November. And you’re questioning intellects?
As she probably won’t run in 2016, wouldn’t you desire Hillary to win what with 2020 down the road?
Marcus on February 13, 2013 at 12:47 PM
You need more impure thoughts. Low info voters love impure thoughts.
sauldalinsky on February 13, 2013 at 12:48 PM
No, they don’t criticize Rubio, they demonize and bury him. Almost as if they were paid to do so.
John the Libertarian on February 13, 2013 at 12:51 PM
A prime example of how politicians get corrupted, not through compromise but through being compromised by those who never run for office but who like to pull the strings of those who do.
Adios.

O.K., so did anybody listen to Roooooobio in Espanol??
I’ll bet he’s da Bomb!
ToddPA on February 13, 2013 at 12:56 PM
Last time I checked he has hedged his position with all kinds of demands about enforcement. The demands aren’t exactly clear but he hasn’t gone full Amnesty unless I am missing something.
If he did that he’d have the entire conservative movement calling for his head.
Maybe he secretly has a plan to sell out conservatives – its not proven.
CorporatePiggy on February 13, 2013 at 12:57 PM
Rubio, you are fast becoming just another ‘r elite’to me and I don’t like the good ole boy r’s who feel they can tell us who we need/want in dc!

The irony of your post escapes you. Maybe if you little ankle biters took some of your fight to the real enemy, the DEMS then maybe we might win some races. The fact that Rove and Romney and your ilk spend more time disparaging people on your own side is the reason why we keep losing. Those damn trucons may grumble and groan but they vote with you bit&he$.. Keep it up though. Keep chasing them away dumbA$$es..
melle1228 on February 13, 2013 at 1:05 PM
Folks read the article…not just the headline and then comment.
I saw nothing wrong with what Rubio said. Look any politician would be foolish to burn bridges needlessly now. He said this in very diplomatic terms, because Rove did help him at one point which he was open about, that he will have no problem with American Crossroads IF they don’t try to force someone the people of that district or state don’t want. Read this section again…
Always look for the “but”, it is called the back door. Rove helped Rubio and like all people when someone helps you…you want to give them the benefit of the doubt. Rubio now can say he did that in a public setting, but if Rove now makes an ass of himself (which personally I think he will) Rubio can dump him without feeling too bad. These are human beings after all not mindless puppets who jump on command.
William Eaton on February 13, 2013 at 1:05 PM
You’re joking around, but they will look for a conservative scapegoat. My bet’s on Rand Paul if he able to hang on to his mantle as opposition leader.
Doomberg on February 13, 2013 at 1:06 PM
Yeah, like maybe have a REAL GOP presidential primary without the endless pimping of the GOPe fave 3 years beforehand designed to freeze out any other possibilities.

This is why we need a TRUE CONSERVATIVE to lead the party.

melle1228 on February 13, 2013 at 1:11 PM
You find that conservative activists tend to be pro-amnesty?
sauldalinsky on February 13, 2013 at 1:11 PM
Guess I had to hear it from the guy’s lips himself.
Okay … looks like Rubio has turned to the dark side and is now a pawn for the GOP establishment Ayatollahs.
I won’t be supporting him.
And … in any case, I’ve just always had the feeling that, with him – he’s really all about “damage mitigation” to the country rather than anything bold … like REVERSING our March toward socialism.
Rand Paul – different story … guy has balls, and he actually IS talking about throwing this nation into full reverse to get back to the founding principles.

Yes , reason is good !
I also think Rove is in a bad place .
Lucano on February 13, 2013 at 1:20 PM
According to Rubio’s plan, the enforcement demands are Step Two, a precondition for Step Three, the path to citizenship. Step One is the illegals get the right to stay in the USA forever, with no conditions except a lack of a criminal record (aka amnesty).
Jon0815 on February 13, 2013 at 1:21 PM
Rubio’s like Romney. He’d be OK with neo-Nazis after a while if there were votes to be had.
ddrintn on February 13, 2013 at 1:23 PM
No worries, I don’t always use the sarc tag.
All of us hotair are basically on the same side in opposing Obama for four more years. In my opinion, we desperately need better debate on the right-of-center side of the country these days, so I never take it personally if anyone challenges my ideas here, including the Establishment types I love to poke in the eye.
Good luck with your job search.
