Dr. Carson is a good remedy for what ails the U.S.
2. He lives the American dream. Growing up in dire poverty in Detroit as the son of a single mother, Dr. Carson learned that his only hope for escaping the poverty he so loathed was through education. He learned this, of course, from his mother, who cut down on television and impressed upon him the importance of reading, going to school and learning skills.
3. After becoming immensely successful as a neurosurgeon, Dr. Carson turned his life to charity. But unlike those who believe the government is the answer to every problem, Dr. Carson chose to use his own money to fund scholarships for disadvantaged children. The program, called Carson Scholars Fund, has become so successful that others now freely give of their own money to a good cause that has proven itself.
4. Dr. Carson is not a lawyer. Speaking at the National Prayer Breakfast last week where hundreds of politicians who are lawyers gathered to pray on camera, Dr. Carson explained why lawyers are so ill-suited for governance. “What do lawyers learn in law school? To win.” He said. “What we need to start thinking about is how do we solve problems.”

He has the confidence to make it not about him. Maybe I’m wrong, but he doesn’t look like he needs the adulation and admiration of others to feel good about himself. He’s a man of actual accomplishment.

Don’t let the establishment bloggers like Allahpundit dismiss a Carson Presidential run because he isn’t a lifelong government sponge like those ‘acceptable candidates’ he supports, this guy is EXACTLY who we need.
Check this little tidbit out:
Despite having joined high-school ROTC a semester late, Carson was a superstar cadet, racking up medals in drill and riflery. He flew through the ranks, moving from private to second lieutenant in a year and change and then so thoroughly acing his field-grade exams (he set a new record) that he leap-frogged straight to lieutenant colonel, and then became one of three full-bird colonels in all of Detroit. In recognition of his achievement, a 17-year-old Carson was given the opportunity to dine with General William Westmoreland, the top U.S. commander in Vietnam, and was offered a full scholarship to West Point.

He lives in Maryland and is from Michigan? Well, LORD KNOWS, we don’t need any good representation from a Black Republican in the Governorship or House or Senate in those states! Why of course, just leap into the Oval Office. Like all the others who went there for their first election.

If only he’ll remain this way.
The Punk knew exactly how tiny he is compared to anyone, especially this man/mensch of accomplishment and soul/mind.

Don’t worry, as soon as he gets more prominence, a few dozen commentors here will call him a RINO squish and wish he were dead.

The only attack I’ve seen so far was from the right — Cal Thomas:

Such conflict is healthy, and refreshing. See also: the First Amendment.

Yeah, considering the source, I was a bit surprised.

Some presidents who had no elected political office before becoming President…
U.S. Grant (1869-1877)
Zachary Taylor (1849-50)
Dwight D. Eisenhower (1953-1961)
Ace of Spades had a good write up the other day about this. He has several important qualities which qualify him for a possible presidential run.
(1) Heroic story and life experiences. You can run for president with no political experience if you come from a heroic field, like the military and in Dr. Carson’s case the medical field. He has a heroic story which Americans tend to like. He has lived a full life, from the poorest to the richest, from nothing to famous, from crime to saving children’s lives. A great leader needs that. The things that made Lincoln and Andrew Jackson so great, despite their faults, was their life experiences. They witnessed the worst life had to offer and still rose beyond it. It gives a leader a bigger perspective of the world and how it works plus good old fashioned common sense. Most important of all it gives them confidence about life. When you have seen the worst, really what is a few stupid attack ads by a political enemy. Nothing…
(2) Experience Running a complex organization. He also has run a large and complex organization at Johns Hopkins for a long time now. In fact he has more experience at running a complex organization than someone who only has a legislator’s background.
(3) Is an expert in a current major American issue. His expertise in medicine makes him perfect for solving one of America’s major problems right now, both socially and economically, which is health care.
(4) Do they value and understand history? Every great American leader, or any world leader throughout time, has had a great sense of history. They also had a great sense of their possible place in history. Anyone who has seen or watch videos of Dr. Carson speak, it is clear he loves history and uses it as a guide. Alas Bush (even though he had a history background) and Obama never understood history and never used it to guide them. If they had they would have avoided so much of the problems they caused for this country.
That does not mean Dr. Carson would win anything, we don’t know his foreign policy for instance. Could he survive the constant trashing he would get? Etc. Lots of questions to be sure, but his background and life experiences is clearly enough to qualify him to be President of the United States.

Dwight Eisenhower was a General in WW2 and 99.9 percent of the country knew who he was. Dr. Carson is on a medical staff and 99.9 percent of the country couldn’t pick him out of a line up. He’s not getting near the White House without prior political experience. Fantasy.
See, this is where the Democrats have some brains. They knew they couldn’t run Hillary for President directly from First Lady (wow, that’s a “complex organization”, too) without getting her to New York and in the US Senate FIRST.

Get it straight Cal. Oboobi is no more arithmetical than Bill Clinton. The American pat of Oboobi is white and the black part of him is kenyan. He no more shares the legacy of slavery nor Jim Crow than Dubya. In fact, being that he’s from Kenya it’s more likely his forefathers collaborated with the Arab Slavers that raided the interior. Ben on the other hand is the product of slavery and all that America did to bring him to equality before God and man.

I reject the idea that growing up in poverty is an important qualification for becoming President, but I believe that’s really irrelevant. The President is an executive, i.e. one whose job is to carry out the laws and policies of the government. Part of that task is being persuasive and inspirational as a leader and decisive in directing the actions of others.
“Living the American dream” is a noble aspiration, but it doesn’t make you great Presidential material. Being smart and well educated are helpful, but I think the most important characteristic is character and a clear understanding of the limits of your power and how it is exercised. The most frequent failure is lack of humility and devotion to the Constitution. Being a good talker is useful, but unless you’ve got something to say, it’s wasted. Being excessively partisan or arrogant will only polarize the country and the Congress.

He may have some good remedies, but he is not a good remedy himself.

When my son graduated from Rennsalaer (RPI) in about 2003, Dr. Carson was the keynote speaker. It was clear then that he was an exceptional man. Plus, they had a (very) low altitude B-2 flyover. Probably the best damn college graduation ceremony in history!
It is wonderful to see Dr. Carson on a national stage. And it’s disgraceful to see the LSM trying to pretend he never spoke. This is exactly the kind of thing the “low information voters” need to hear.

Government is far to ba$tardized to be fixed by a single candidate. This man needs to go and enjoy the fruits of his labor and not be infected by the DC filth.
