Obama weighing executive actions on housing, gays and other issues
President Obama is considering a series of new executive actions aimed at working around a recalcitrant Congress, including policies that could allow struggling homeowners to refinance their mortgages, provide new protections for gays and lesbians, make buildings more energy-efficient and toughen regulations for coal-fired power plants, according to people outside the White House involved in discussions on the issues…
The administration declined to provide details on timing of the possible actions; one White House official said the moves to boost housing, retrofit buildings, offer same-sex protections or issue new environmental rules were not imminent. Obama may touch on some of the actions in broad terms during his State of the Union address Tuesday, but he is unlikely to lay them out in detail.
One of the more significant moves under consideration is in housing. Obama is weighing whether to use his executive authority to give more of the country’s nearly 11 million struggling homeowners a chance to refinance at today’s ultra-low interest rates, according to the Treasury Department and others in talks with the administration on the issue.

Executive orders don’t have the power to do any of that, do they?

Your divisive King Obama

Obviously, we define “legislation” differently. What Obama wants to do, has done, is doing, will continue to do, is dictate edicts–which is legislation–from his executive perch. Legislation is reserved for the legislative branch of the federal government, i.e., Congress, not Caesar Obama. How is he any different from a dictator? Explain Obama zombies.
Yeah, it’s dangerous and a different Constitution that Obama follows. Who’s going to step up and call Obama on it? I like the phrase, “clutching their pearls.” That’s all this tsk, tsking is from Grassley unless he or someone stands up to Obama and his out-of-control, power-hungry Administration.

I don’t think Congress is what is holding up mortgage refinances.
Cindy Munford on February 10, 2013 at 11:37 PM
I thought it said “executive actions on housing gays” and thought there might be a spare room I definitely would have to tidy up before that happened.
Marcus on February 10, 2013 at 11:43 PM
No kidding. I thought we already had programs in place to help these folks refinance at the lower rates. If they haven’t worked thus far, why would an executive order make any difference?

The Supreme Court needs to throw down the gauntlet on this. Possibly by announcing they are reserving a set amount of time EVERY WEEK to do NOTHING but review the constitutionality of his actions in office.

Well, if he signs an Executive Order giving himself the power to write Executive Orders about these things…
You know…make the wish to have more wishes kind of thing…

A sad day in this country, with Rs in tatters, shredded by their lack of political skill….or, well, maybe the ‘people’ just want to be told what to do, and be taken care of…and chill. It has been a tough time, the last 15 years. Stock market collapses, wars, 9/11, housing collapse.
Seriously, this is just like the 30s with FDR and a moribund R party. there is nothing to do…and barry knows it. He can ride high on the hog, with an adoring, leftist, press. (Actually, i think the press was far more conservative in the 30s…so barry has advantages that FDR didn’t)
I think we’re in this for another 8 years. 16 will go to the left, then the Rs will have a chance in 20…people will want a change after 3 terms of Ds.

I thought he’d already done most of this stuff
Certainly he’s got about a million mortgage refinance programs and the stimulus was supposed to have all kinds of energy-efficiency retrofitting programs.
As for mortgages, he can’t keep talking about closing the mortgage interest deduction if he hopes to stimulate housing prices.

By then, every agency of the federal government will be entirely staffed by full-on Marxists. The Supreme Court will have a Marxist majority. Can you think of any GOP candidates with the courage to clean house the way it will need to be done? For that matter, can you think of even one who would be willing to roll back this clown’s Marxist state policies? I can’t. It’s gonna take more than a mere election to undo this clown’s damage.
Rational Thought on February 11, 2013 at 7:31 AM
After this clown, and then 8 years of Shrillery, the Supreme Court will be throwing down the gauntlet, all right, but not the gauntlet you hope they’ll be throwing down. What will this country do with an Obama-Clinton Supreme Court? The Bill of Rights? Gone. How will the country react? Will they just accept it? Bow down to their new masters? Dangerous times ahead.

I just shake my head at the thought the MSM still markets this guy as a serious person.

I could be wrong (I hope I’m not) but I think Barack Obama has spent most of his political capital at this point. I don’t know how warmly more ridiculous plans for weatherproofing houses and such will be greeted at this point (except among the Christopher Dorner is a hero and Chris Rock is brilliant crowd).
The Republicans really need to go after him when he blathers on about people getting a “fair shot”- they can start by asking if this includes giving a fair shot to the coal miners whose jobs are being shuttered, or the restaurant worker whose hours are being cut because of his policies, and go on from there. And Lindsey Graham needs to keep up the prosecution vis-à-vis Benghazi. I think people are wrong when they say it’s over.

I heard a blip the other day that Cass Sunstein had recently written an article detailing how, in essence, Obama wants to finish the dream of FDR – the 2nd Bill of Rights. I recall seeing on TCM a couple of years ago old coverage/speech of Roosevelt delineating things like freedom to have a home and freedom from want. This is the progressive apocalypse set upon us. PRAY.
Greyledge Gal on February 11, 2013 at 10:02 AM
He wants the righty base to start arguing for impeachement so it isolates and alienates the repub leadership moreso.
Guy is a jerk.
Even if I agreed with any of these decisions, he’s going this route to agitate and antagonize so he the MSM will cover the political blather and ignore the country falling apart.
