After ignoring unemployment, Obama now seeks to convince Americans it’s his top priority
National Journal’s Ron Fournier writes that “White House officials tell me they feel stung by coverage of the inaugural address,” when the press “highlighted the president’s left-leaning stances on immigration, gun control, climate change, and gay and women’s rights.” Those White House officials claimed to Fournier that Obama in fact devoted much of his inaugural address to the economy — a claim that is on its face not true.
Obama’s slighting of the economy is nothing new. Critics charged throughout his first term that at a time when economic conditions bordered on the desperate, the president devoted more than a year of his energies to passing a national health care scheme. At the time, the White House promised it would “pivot” to the issue of jobs and the economy at some future time. That time never came. Meanwhile, all the polls showed deep public concern over the economy.
Now, apparently, Obama has noticed public opinion. “Obama’s return to an overtly economic message is supported in part by polls,” reports the Post, which notices “a gulf between what Obama has been talking most about publicly since his reelection and what most concerns the American electorate.”
Anyone could have seen that at any time in the last few months, or years. See here, and here, and here. Despite the nation’s deep and prolonged suffering, the president has simply never put the economy at the top of his agenda.

So he is going to seal the border, deport illegals, institute E-verify and roll back business regulations?

Badger40 on February 10, 2013 at 8:20 PM
It surely is his top priority to make sure Americans are unemployed.
That message is getting out lousd and clear.
tom daschle concerned on February 10, 2013 at 8:21 PM
He doesn’t need to “convince Americans” of anything. They VOTED for his failed policies. They LIKE his failed policies. America LOVES its clown president.
Rational Thought on February 10, 2013 at 8:25 PM
He ‘s so focused, the BLS is thinking about lowering the labor force participation rate to 1930 levels. That will drop the unemployment rate.

If I was a rich man, not rich as Barky says I am but actually rich, I would commission a slew of polls which show Dog Eater getting low marks for not eating enough PB&J sandwiches. Then sit back and watch as he appears at every single function ostentatiously sporting a sandwich in both hands.

Obama has pivoted to jobs so many times, he’s drilled a hole in the ground.

His supporters are not interested in finding a job…just where do they sign up for the next handout.

Obama is officially worse than Carter.
Take the Employment-Population ratio data from 1977 to present, use Microsoft Excel to average the monthly numbers for each Presidency, and then sort them.
For the last six Presidents, here is the ranking of average Employment-Population ratio by Presidency:
63.4% Clinton Presidency (January 1993 – December 2000)
62.7% G.W.Bush Presidency (January 2001 – December 2008)
62.2% G.H.W.Bush Presidency (January 1989 – December 1992)
59.9% Reagan Presidency (January 1981 – December 1988)
59.1% Carter Presidency (January 1977- December 1980)
58.7% Obama Presidency (January 2009 – January 2013)
Obama is officially worse than Carter.
And the January 2013 number, at 58.6, was yet another below-average month, even for Obama’s sub-par average. He hasn’t been above his average since August 2009. Obama’s best months were those he “inherited” at the start of his term.
Each and every month of the Obama Presidency has “featured” an Employment-Population ratio that was lower than it ever was under President George W. Bush.
The worst month under Bush was better than the best month under Obama.
And once again, Obama is officially worse than Carter.

Obama to Propose Spending to Boost Jobs in State of Union

I figure your just joshing us… but all the things that you mentioned are pointless.
Employers are scrambling to mitigate the effects of O-care; all the of the taxes, fees, regulations, and bureaucracy… all of it working as a massive engine brake on the economy.
While those corporations sitting on massive cash reserves will survive (after a fashion) this toxic mess, the bulk of employers for the working population will be crushed and crippled as a steady stream of ‘surprises’, via O-care come to light.
That’s what he’s hoping will carry the ‘rats past 2014… by 2016, you won’t recognize our former Republic.

Yes… and too many of those people stayed home on election day.
Obozo’s negative campaign messaging worked.
(If foresight and wisdom were common traits, we wouldn’t be in the current multi-decade mess we’re in.)
