El Paso, America’s safest big city, undermines Chicago’s case for gun control
Chicago, Ill., a city surrounded by the rural midwest, has tight guns laws. El Paso, Texas, has lax gun laws and neighbors one of the most violent cities in the world. Yet, El Paso is the safest big city in the U.S., whereas President Obama cites the murder rate in his hometown as a reason to implement his gun control agenda.
Gun violence isn’t much of an issue in El Paso, Texas, which is the safest city of its size in the country. “[T]his week, for the third year in a row, El Paso was ranked as the safest U.S. city with a population greater that 500,000 by CQ Press, which compiled FBI’s Uniform Crime Reports,” per Fox.El Paso has minimal gun control — “mostly due to gun-friendly state law,” Reason observes. It also neighbors one of the most dangerous cities in the world.

And where is the mass ad buy and media blitz from conservative groups bringing this juxtaposition to the attention of mindless masses?

Must be because everyone is content because they can eat Chico’s Tacos all the time.

And again, no one says how liberals give preferred treatment to rapists, armed burglars and murderers. When you disempower the citizen you empower criminals. Proven time and time again.

ROTFLMAO… Oh my god I’m laughing so hard my sides hurt. That guy was a chef, and he thinks Chico’s invented the Rolled Taco…

Well then it hasn’t changed since I rolled through there in late ’94. What a fracking dump that place is.

They trot out the “El Paso/Safest City in the World!” line every time Amnesty comes up to show that we have nothing to fear from being deluged with Latin American immigrants.
For one thing, El Paso is home to the Fort Bliss, a military encampment that’s many time larger than El Paso itself. With such a large military presence near the city and so many military people around the city, it tends to mellow things out a bit.
El Paso is also a long-time notorious smuggling hub with so much of the local economy dependent upon black market trades and people have a vested interest in keeping things quiet so as not to draw attention. Ask anyone who’s lived in a mafia-dominated neighborhood how safe it is to live there.
When they do need to settle accounts, they cross the border to Juarez and do their killing there, so the actual crime statistics for El Paso are mixed in with that city’s.
El Paso Saddleblanket rocks
And to Garym’s point above, there is a wealth of great Tex-Mex eateries and when you spend so much of your time digesting those tasty vittles, you’re less intent on committing any serious crime. Although, the best burritos by far are to be found a couple hours east of El Paso at the Exxon station in Van Horn at the corner of Frontage Rd and Van Horn St.

There used to be a theory about high levels of lithium in El Paso’s water that acts as a tranquilizer.

El Paso fudges their statistics like many left-leaning border cities/counties.
