If you hate the term “assualt weapon,” you’ll really hate “assault magazine”
Today the House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force unveiled a “comprehensive set of policy principles designed to reduce gun violence while respecting the 2nd Amendment Rights of law-abiding Americans.” What is the House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force? A bunch of Democrats appointed by House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and led by Rep. Mike Thompson (D-Calif.) with the assistance of 11 (!) “vice chairs.” Their mission: to “reduce and prevent gun violence while also protecting the rights of law-abiding individuals without a history of dangerous mental illness to own legitimate firearms for legitimate purposes.” Are the 12 chairs of the task force also the only members? Possibly. …
An “assault magazine,” by the way, is not a periodical you use to squash spiders; it is an ammunition feeding device that holds more than 10 rounds. Such illegitimate magazines, by their very nature, can be used only to attack people and never for self-defense, hunting, or sporting purposes.

How about “comprehensive common senese gun safety” legislation.

What about ‘standard size’ magazines? Are those okay, or do they not sound scary enough?
Because a standard size M-4/AR mag is 30 rounds.
Washington Nearsider on February 8, 2013 at 11:29 AM
It’s “illegitimate” to use an 11-round magazine for self defense?!
Well, I guess, maybe, since the mag by itself isn’t much good even as a thrown projectile.
JohnTant on February 8, 2013 at 11:30 AM
On really? A Springfield XD comes standard with 16 round magazine as do Glocks and just about all polymer made guns and many use them for….SELF DEFENSE!
These democrats are the most asinine people on the planet. I think David Kopel is right. These magazine bans would be unconstitutional under Heller vs DC on the ground that 15 to 19 round magazines are commonly used.

Silly me, I already thought we did away with assault magazines when Newsweek ceased print publication in December.
hungrymongo on February 8, 2013 at 11:37 AM
Wait until they realize that low capacity magazines are virtually invisible when installed.
That’s why they’re forbidden in the IDF.

I never knew that. Fantastic data point.

This terminology change needs to be questioned and fought whenever it comes up. Don’t accept anybody using the term “assault weapon” unless they can define it and defend it. Insist they detail it every time, feign ignorance and bring up conflicting definitions from various jurisdictions if they won’t. Ditto for “assault magazine”. (What’s next? “Assault bullets”?) Once a term is established as de riguer, the definition WILL be changed to ban anything they don’t like. There are single-shot rifles are now banned under the “assault weapon” law of California.
And just wait until they start up on “sniper rifles” again.

When Bryan Williams etc. say ‘our politics be broken’ this is exactly what comes to mind: we’re paying a bunch of tools to talk utter gibberish with feigned authority.
Meanwhile in California, the President-Elect of the Black Congressional Caucus roams free in the mountains.

Just wait until they start going after ‘Assault Speech’.
Galt2009 on February 8, 2013 at 11:47 AM
“Illegitimate magazines”? “By their very nature”??
Blow me, morons.

The real dangers are assault politicians. They need to be banned.
ThePrimordialOrderedPair on February 8, 2013 at 12:23 PM
It gets worse. Now we have “assault bullets”. I sh!t you not.
This what CA now calls hollowpoints, and is planning to outlaw them!
The CA bill that was announced yesterday is horrendous, and much worse even than the horrible Cuomo law.

Gotta love how the gun grabbers have switched from gun “control” to gun “violence”, they realized people just weren’t going for their fascistic notions of control so they switch to “violence” because hey, you’re not against stopping gun “violence” are you? Of course you’re not how could you be?
Never mind that the end result is the same fascistic control of guns, the low info voters who get their political news from Perez Hilton and Kim Kardishian are all that matter as we learned from the last election and they’ll be all for stopping gun “violence” just like they’re for every other spoonful of pablum the government feeds them.

Someone should correct the spelling in the headline.
meci on February 8, 2013 at 1:28 PM
That’s assault spelling. It’s here to prove a point.
Washington Nearsider on February 8, 2013 at 1:38 PM
CCSGF… I can’t pronounce that, it’ll never catch on.
Personally, after some deliberation I think they should call it the
Sensical Thoughts to Update Persons Interested in Defense Bill.
We can call it the STUPID Bill for brevity.
