Football vs. futbol: Which is in bigger trouble?
As fewer great athletes play college ball the NFL will have a harder team replenishing its talent pool. In a couple of generations the league may have degenerated to the point that audiences turn their attention to other, more interesting, better-played sports. Like boxing before it, football may end up relegated to niche status. Who wants play a game that’ll end up killing you?
Soccer, on the other hand, has a much more serious short term problem. As Brian Phillips notes at Grantland, Match-fixing is a massive, massive problem for fútbol and its fans.

Soccer players hit the ball with their unprotected head, doesn’t that cause damage too??

There’s a graphic internet death video depicting a soccer player getting his neck broken by a kick to the head. I’ll take football thank you.

“futbol” is played by never were or has-been nations with populations so lacking entertainment that watching skinny knob-knees in shorts kick a ball back and forth for hours (and mostly never scoring) is fun.
We have football. The most popular sport in the world.
