Why I can’t support Chuck Hagel for defense secretary
I appreciate Chuck Hagel’s service, both as an infantryman in Vietnam and as a United States senator representing Nebraska. However, after meeting with him privately and witnessing his confusing and contradictory testimony before the Senate Armed Services Committee, I cannot support his nomination…
While some have voiced concern that he altered long-held views, I am more troubled by Hagel’s insistence on positions that history has proven wrong.
During our one-on-one meeting, I asked Sen. Hagel if, in hindsight, he would have voted differently regarding unilateral sanctions on Iran. Despite the pressure these sanctions have exerted on the Iranian regime, Sen. Hagel stood by his lonely votes. Similarly, when pressed by Sen. John McCain about his opposition to the surge of troops in Iraq, which helped to turn around an unsuccessful war, Sen. Hagel refused to acknowledge his incorrect judgment.

It’s pretty sad that the only Republicans with balls are the females.

Admiral Stockdale, a true war hero, picked by Perot in 1992 as his VP choice, looks like a genius compared to Hagel, and yet Stockdale, picked as a placeholder for the VP slot, was fully aware of his abilities and limitations. Hagel, not so much.

Another example of why the GOP must be taken over by women.
The men in the GOP are so f-ed up – it’s time to put our women front and center.

Because she’s a Nebraskan and has seen, first hand, what a slack-jawed, moon-faced dunce he is. And yes, I lived in Nebraska from 1983 – 2006.

Love ya, Deb! She knows Chuck is bad for America, and she knows how much her constituents loathe him.
NebCon on February 7, 2013 at 1:51 PM
According to Deb, because Chuck Hagel didn’t want to cause a severe economic hardship onto Iranian people over a weapon the US intelligence community says it doesn’t have makes him unqualified for Secretary of Defense. Frankly, I think Chuck should be heralded as a humanitarian for not wanting to bring about severe economic hardships on people. I think he should also be admired for his willingness to vote his conscience.

Yep, not seeking to draw the US into another senseless war in the Middle East = bad for America.

Before you flap your ignorant gums again, you might want to look into Hagel’s relationships with organizations that are under investigation for running afoul of the law.

Seems like I remember an old quote.
“If you wish for peace, prepare for war.”
Or was it “If you wish for peace Surrender”?
The Dems lean more toward the second version than the first.
You decide.

What role did Hagel play? Guilt by association? By the way, even if Hagel wasn’t associated with those groups you would still hate his guts.

Because the Pentagon should definitely be run by a “humanitarian”. Think of all the bloodshed that could have been prevented if everyone would have been a humanitarian like Neville Chamberlain.
ButterflyDragon on February 7, 2013 at 2:31 PM
Since there is no German, Russian, Chinese, or Iranian Luftwaffe that is staging an aerial attack against the US, a humanitarian like Chamberlain would be a great fit for Sec of Def.
