Obama’s wise kill-don’t-capture rule
We owe America’s lefties a big wet kiss for forcing the Obama administration into this highly effective policy. By making a cause celebre out of the imaginary suffering of blood-drenched terrorists at Gitmo, they inspired candidate Obama to promise to close the facility within the first year of his presidency.
But no can do. Gitmo’s still open — and not just because Congress wouldn’t let him close it. Our legal system benefits terrorists; they’re briefed on how to beat our laws. So President Obama & Co. figured out fast that captured terrorists are another “unfunded liability.” In office, Obama also learned that the terrorists aren’t kidding. The obvious answer? Just kill ’em.
Thank you, left-wing champions of injustice!
But killing terrorists only makes them martyrs. Hogwash. The opposite’s true. Imprison a terrorist and you will, indeed, make him a martyr. Kill him, and he’s dead.
Nobody’s attacking us in the name of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi these days (remember the Butcher of Baghdad?). And when terrorists seized a remote natural-gas facility in Algeria last month, they weren’t yelling, “Remember Osama bin Laden!”
Instead, they demanded the release of the “Blind Sheik,” the mastermind of the first Twin Towers attack, from a US prison.

Tyrant. This is the same douche-bag that claims to want a small and limited government. News flash to this hypocrite, one day the government might turn their guns, surveillance and might against you.

jake-the-goose on February 7, 2013 at 2:24 PM
I support killing terrorists but American citizens have rights. Neocons like McCain, Krauthammer and Peters that are aligned against the Constitution and Magna Carta need to go away.

If you agree with Obama you are on the wrong side.
FloatingRock on February 7, 2013 at 2:26 PM
Before you flame the author, keep one thing in mind:
A big reason George W won in 2000 was because of an effective Nader campaign. Why was Nader so effective after eight years of Democrat rule by Clinton? Because a lot of far lefties who actually did care about things like the environment beyond their use as a political cudgel shut their traps for eight years, and weren’t wanting to shut them any longer. A very effective 2016 strategy for us is to remind the less-than-casually peacenik Left what kind of a turd they will have spent eight years polishing. They won’t say anything now, but watch someone like Katrina Vandenheuvel or Amy Goodman run a third-party candidacy in 2016.

Very regrettable that RP writes this, highly naive and disappointing.
Obama is a traitor and a criminal to the US constitution.
He has killed the last drop of US moral authority.
The entier world is silent, and, thus, deservers his destruction.

Peters omitted the sarc tag. He is talking about the practical consequences of the massive hypocrisy that moves Obama’s politics.
Peters isn’t stupid, and I’m sure he would agree that we should be harvesting intel when possible. Some of these guys should be captured instead of blown straight to Hell. But the fact is that Obama is slaughtering jihadi scum with drones by the hundreds, and that is good.

Read enough of that drek to realize the author is an idiot. This isn’t about reading foreign terrorists their rights. This is about making sure that American citizens abroad can’t be assassinated by the POTUS. All of our citizens inside the US are supposed be protected by due process and those outside of it should be as well (as far as actions by the US towards them are concerned). Obviously they have to be aware of the laws of the country they’re in as well.

The definition of terrorist becomes a slippery concept, subject to a president’s needs of the moment, once he’s gotten through the American citizen part of it.

He needs to go to court for citizens, kill the others.
One thing he does right.

the one problem with that is the anti-war movement was a sham. It evaporated the moment Obama was elected and we didn’t hear a peep out of them when he doubled down on Bush’s policies.

Sins of the Father: How Team Obama Justifies the Killing of a 16-Year-Old American
Keep in mind, too, that it is UNCONSTITUTIONAL in the United States to execute a minor or a defendant sentenced for a crime committed as a minor. See: United States, Roper v. Simmons, 543 U.S. 551 (2005).
Furthermore, in May 2012, the New York Times, inadvertently, told us that President Barack Obama, PERSONALLY, ordered the execution of Abdulrahman al-Awlaki:
Seven months before the NYT’s article, President Obama murdered a 16 year-old boy that was NOT a “top official” in al-Qaeda; was NOT a member of the group, was NOT an “inspiration,” had NOT gone “operational,” and had NOT been accused of any crimes whatsoever.
He was a 16 year-old boy from Denver, who had left to find his father, Anwar al-Awlaki, a leader in AQ. He was not “collateral damage.” He was the TARGET. There was NO evidence of any crime committed – or even allegations of same – by Abdulrahman. He was denied due process. His death was premeditated and ordered by the President of the United States, a country where executing minors for FIRST-DEGREE MURDER or individuals, who committed first-degree murder as a minor, is UNCONSTITUTIONAL.
He wasn’t waterboarded. He was droned… in a country with which the United States is not at war.
He was sentenced to death because of the sins of his father.
And, there is NOTHING “wise” about that.

Channeling the perfessor: The lefties said if I voted for John McCain we’d get more mid east war, black ops, and unchecked military power – and they were right!
I agree with the wisdom of Obama’s kill-not-capture policy, but what makes everyone puke is the duplicitous, base pandering hypocrisy that goes with it.

Question: If the drone that was flying over Bengazi had taken out those terrorists – would anyone object?
Of course not. Our drone policy is not without checks and balances – I think we need to consider who exactly is administering this program at the actionable intelligence level? The pilot-administrators are not in the oval office.

The white pages about it are high level platitudes and they didn’t even release those, until forced to do so. The supporting memos are full of details, which Obama refuses to release…said he’d give to congress only when forced, due to hearings of today pressure…
These are not transparent people of good will. These are charlatanic thugs, who’ll declare anyone, a tea party person, any one here the “enemy” and drone them. Wake up.
On your question – how can you compare terrorists who attacked the US, or who would, with US citizens in general?
The latter have sacrosanct constitutional rights – the former don’t wear a uniform but Obama and his wanted them to have all the US rights…recall the Bush years…wake up, wake up, wake up.

Good that they’re dead.
Better yet that they be questioned. Enthusiastically.
But the Left has managed to put a stop to that option, so Obama is exercising what’s left.
You can always depend on a Democrat to do what’s right, once every other option has been eliminated.

Um, Ralphy boy, wouldn’t it be a good idea to try to capture a few higher ups so we can get some info from them? You know, that intelligence thingy that is so important when combating shadowy secretive terrorist groups.
It may be better that Comrade O is killing them rather all rather than trying to capture a few, but that’s only because he politically cannot do what would be required to incarcerate them and interrogate them effectively, and I’m not even talking about enhanced interrogation. Any interrogation is better than none.
As an ex-military guy surely you know this. So why the hell are you saying this is a “wise” thing?

jake-the-goose on February 7, 2013 at 4:11 PM
Good luck finding tin foil. You’ll probably have to use aluminum foil.
In any event, it’s not a conspiracy theory to suggest that this administration thinks that it is authorized to target for assassination an American citizen that has been deemed a terrorist based on nothing more than their say-so. That’s their actual argument (abridged version). If that is the legal standard, the only thing stopping them from doing the same to any one of us is their benevolence. I don’t consider the government and its agents as benevolent. Do you?
