Immigration’s latest ally: The Christian right
Reed’s group released a letter Tuesday that outlines broad goals for reform, like keeping families together, reforming the visa system and securing the border.
High profile leaders are also weighing in. Mathew Staver, vice president of Liberty University, the college started by former TV minister Jerry Falwell, is on board. Focus on the Family, which for years has focused on issues like opposing abortion rights and gay marriage, is supporting immigration reform for the first time in its history — even using its radio broadcast that reaches millions to push its message.
“The issues had been so demagogued for the last five or six years, it was hopeless to get seriously into this,” said Tom Minnery or Focus on the Family. “It seems the time is better. The time has changed…That’s why we’ve become more active.”
Social conservatives are directly targeting GOP offices and trying to show that they can give cover to lawmakers in the South, West and Midwest, who are worried about facing retaliation at the ballot box in 2014.

I’m terribly concerned.

tom daschle concerned on February 6, 2013 at 4:06 PM
Yeah many are interested in fixing the illegal immigration issue but the plan differs from one group to another… I do not think the Christian Right wants amnesty… They want border security and fixing the visa process…

GOP, YOU WILL FACE CONSEQUENCES. Just say no to turning more of the nation over to foreign invaders!
astonerii on February 6, 2013 at 4:08 PM
That’s so very christian of them.
Dr. Frank Enstine on February 6, 2013 at 4:09 PM
If “the christian right” is “immigration’s latest ally” then why would anybody need to give politicians “political cover” with them? I am so confused.
Fenris on February 6, 2013 at 4:11 PM
Well I would hope so.
At least they’re not allying themselves with illegal immigration.

Sorry to say.
“$” its all about filling the pews and the donation plate for these mega church corporations.
Morman Chruch is the number one enabler in Utah plus they have a huge operation on going from the time of Romney parents being in Mexico.
The rule of law is all we have between U.S. and a great evil dark place.
APACHEWHOKNOWS on February 6, 2013 at 4:21 PM
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
One of the tenets of social conservatism is obedience to the rule of law. That would preclude things like say, breaking it. Last I checked, trespassing is falls under that. The act of trespassing actively disregards the will of property owners, whether that illegal crossing be across the land of private citizen or of the American people.

Hah, that was my thought exactly.
Othniel on February 6, 2013 at 4:39 PM
Don’t be so sure. There’s a big push to get churches to adopt a “social justice” approach. I’m sure you also know that amnesty proponents like to muddle legal and illegal into the general “immigrant” term rahter than distinguishing legal status. Churches are also falling into this. One notable example is the LDS Church’s approach to the subject. I fully expect them to join with the other above mentioned groups to push for amnesty (“immigration reform”).
batter on February 6, 2013 at 4:52 PM
As a Christian Conservative the only immigrants I would support need to have the following attitude as demonstrated by Ruth
Ruth 1:16-17
…Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God. 17 Where you die I will die, and there I will be buried. May the Lord deal with me, be it ever so severely, if even death separates you and me.”
Sorry, but I won’t support those who don’t want to join and assimilate into this country and its culture.

No surprises here. Social “conservatives” do everything in their power to undermine the cause of small, constitutional government.
Armin Tamzarian on February 6, 2013 at 5:23 PM
righhtttt… because social conservatives don’t believe in small government? what a stupid statement
sadsushi on February 6, 2013 at 5:30 PM
Name me one issue where the social conservative position advocates for a reduced role for the federal government.
Armin Tamzarian on February 6, 2013 at 5:31 PM
Affirmative action.

More state propaganda here at Hot Air.
It seems some Conservative organizations have been co-opted by the Left. As it happens that any organization not fully committed to Conservatism eventually gets taken over by Liberals.
Most Americans strongly oppose Amnesty. Nothing’s changed from 2007 on this.

Get rid of social security.
Get rid of welfare state.
Get rid of medical care on demand regardless of ability to pay.

So many young Evangelicals are social justice wacko’s. Progressivism has infected congregations and even the clergy. We’ve ceded entertainment, academia and the media to the left for 40+ years. We shouldn’t be surprised at our outcomes.
