Senate ready to make moves on gun control
Senate Democratic leaders expect a gun bill to move to the Senate floor that includes most of the proposals backed by President Barack Obama, with the notable exception of a ban on military-style, semiautomatic weapons, a top aide to Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada said.
The bill would likely seek to limit the capacity of ammunition magazines; expand background checks to include sales at gun shows and other private transactions; and require better record keeping to keep guns out of the hands of those with mental illnesses. It would also try to curb gun sales in states with more relaxed gun laws to buyers in states with stricter laws. …
But the strategy outline also reflects a growing sense within Democratic ranks that some of the president’s most ambitious goals—particularly the call for new bans on certain types of military-style guns often described as assault weapons—may be unrealistic, the Reid aide said.

I hope there is a special place downstairs for these people. May they all rot.

They can go ahead and limit the capacity of clips to 10, but not magazines.

And it’ll go nowhere in the House. Hell, will it even pass the Senate given how many red state Dems are up for reelection next year?

Good luck enforcing background checks on sales between two private individuals.
The only way it may work is if the seller coud somehow be able to be held liable for crimes committed by the buyer if no check were done.
Read my post on how easy it would be to create a national gun registry without you knowing.

Eh, you may be able to force them at gun shows but you will not stop private citizens from selling firearms without a background check.
Sorry – you just won’t. Now, you can make us all criminals out here … and well, we already are to some degree because of stupid laws – EVERYONE is a lawbreaker … universal criminality.
Maybe it’s time to give up on this and just play outlaw? Hmmm? Full auto my friends – we have nothing to lose!!!

I worry that someone who needs a gun and ammo for protection, won’t be able to find one.
Blake on February 4, 2013 at 5:16 PM
Er, this requirement is already in effect in several states, and it’s not hard to enforce. The main reason is that it makes it a felony to not go through an FFL and not fill out the form for the check.
If you’re selling your gun, would you really want to commit a felony just to avoid some stranger not having to fill out a form?

What will it do to stop sales from our government to Mexican drug cartels?
JellyToast on February 4, 2013 at 5:21 PM
Friend, that is exactly the intent of our government, most especially if he needs that gun and ammo to protect himself from that self-same government – which is the specific intent behind the Second Amendment.
They are striking a match to the tinder.

Universal background check are Unconstitutional for three reasons
1) They are a violation of the government’s constitutionally enumerated powers.
2) They are an unconstitutional prior restraint on 2nd amendment.
3) They are an Infringement on the right of the People to keep and bear arms.
Isn’t that enough for you?
Besides being a step towards CONFISCATION and an attack on our liberty.

How else could this massive expansion of Feral power be abused?
Perhaps a background check to buy fast food?
Background checks to buy birth control?
Background checks to buy media?
Background checks to buy items the government in power has decided aren’t PC?
All kind of new taxes to go along with that handy dandy requirement on Innocent people that criminals will ignore?

In what states are background checks required for 1:1 sales?

Because about the only thing missing is the requisite fleet of long-range air transports, the likes of which haven’t been seen since D-Day.
Add to that the element of surprise would be very unlikely; where the hell are you gonna hide that many planes or secretly train that many pilots, let alone BUILD the darn things.
