Mission accomplished but then they are actually going to give him the job. I have to assume they think it hearings made Republicans look bad. That’s a lot of spin.

I don’t think it is exhausting, they are lucky in their very compliant press that has no intention of pointing out these things or even challenging them on inconsistencies. They don’t even bother to check historical facts in his speeches. At this point the only thing I can hope for is that they give themselves enough rope to hang with, but I am not the least bit confident it will happen.

During an appearance on Al Jazeera in 2009, a caller asked him about “the perception and the reality” that America is “the world’s bully” — and Hagel told viewers that he agreed.

The Obama admin spends most of its energy covering up what it really believes. It must be exhausting.

They seem to think that Hagel will get the job but this guy will be doing the work. There is something really really odd about this move by the administration. I am sure all sorts of people are put into high profile jobs while doing none of the actual work but usually the figure head has something to recommend them. Unless I am missing something (not impossible) the only thing Hagel seems to have going for him is the ‘R’ after his name. I guess the damage to be done will be under guise of bipartisanship. Interesting that they don’t even care that Hagel comes off as a bumbling stooge willing to say and do anything to get the job.

On Special Report last night they mentioned an Under Secretary of Defense who would probably be running the show and who probably should be a bit p.o.’d over the nomination of Hagel.
