by all reports being a Gov is a way better job than Senator
Plus he would have had to run 4 (!) Senate campaigns in a 5 year span just to hold the seat because of the 2 special elections (2009, 2012, 2013, 2014) if my math is correct
As obnoxious as the Warren loss must have been, going through that many campaigns as an underdog in Taxachussets has to take its toll…
Don’t be surprised if Brown simply sits out the special and runs for the full term in 2014. Though he might run for Governor and it might be a better fit for him anyway. The Senate Republican caucus is getting more conservative and he isn’t.
Tisei got smoked running against a corrupt Dem pol in one MA district. I don’t think he could win state-wide… (cough*transgender bathroom bill*cough)

Since when is a Republican losing by 1% of the vote in MA during a presidential election year getting smoked. I’d like to see him run, I love Bielat but he’s too conservative for MA. No way is Romney going to run, and if he were to run, no way is he going to win. Tisei is our best bet, plus the national GOP gets tons of media cred for nominating, and hopefully electing, a Gay guy statewide.
I’m pretty sure he still lives in New York, where he lost the 2006 gubernatorial race to Spitzer?
steebo77 on February 1, 2013 at 2:42 PM
The Republican candidate in 2006 was John Faso, who was defeated by Spitzer. I believe Weld lives in NY, but maintains property in Mass and could switch residencey if he chose to. I suspect he will not. Other names being mentioned (per the NY Times) are:
Gabriel Gomez, a businessman and a former member of the Navy SEALs, and State Representative Daniel Winslow, a former district court judge who served in the administration of Mitt Romney. Another possible candidate is former Lt. Gov. Kerry Healey, who served as Mr. Romney’s No. 2 and who was deferring to Mr. Brown before making a decision.
Blowback

Where did the Hillary thread go?
Uh oh…did HotGas get a “visit”?
Bishop on February 1, 2013 at 1:06 PM
Indeed. Did Ed get sent to Fort Marcy Park?
Bitter Clinger on February 1, 2013 at 1:08 PM
You can write that one off.
steebo77 on February 1, 2013 at 1:10 PM
I don’t blame him. He got hit from both sides for everything.
cozmo on February 1, 2013 at 1:11 PM
Kind of hard to blame him. After the special election, he’d have to turn around and run for the seat again in 2014.
Bitter Clinger on February 1, 2013 at 1:12 PM
The Hillary thread was sent to be “re-educated”.

I guess he really doesn’t want to be a Senator cuz he probably would’ve won the special election easily.

Agreed.

Who else is there? Baker, Bielat, Tisei? Anyone?

Romney!

The ghost of Samuel Adams?
Bitter Clinger on February 1, 2013 at 1:26 PM
What? Why? Dude, you could have picked out that seat.
tommy71 on February 1, 2013 at 1:27 PM
He’s running for governor then. The poll numbers showed a close race for senate but he’d do well for governor.

Henry Cabot Lodge for Senate!

The only way the guy won his first election was by pretending to be conservative. Another liar out the door, no loss.

Former Gov. William Weld is now being mentioned as a possible candidate.

Senator might be a good office for Weld. He wouldn’t have to worry about getting bored with trying to actually run an administration.

I had to look it up, but you’re right. Faso defeated Weld at the State Convention.
