How the south will rise to power again
Rather than some comic-book version of a sleepy old south, the South’s dynamic metropolitan regions — not surprisingly, among the nation’s fastest growing — represent the real future of the region. They are becoming more diverse in every way. Houston and Dallas are already immigrant hotbeds; Nashville. Charlotte, Atlanta, Raleigh and Orlando all have among the nation’s fastest-growing foreign populations.
Growth in the South, as elsewhere, is concentrated in their suburban rings but there’s also been something of central city revivals in Houston, Raleigh, Atlanta and Charlotte. Increasingly these places boast the amenities to compete with the bastions of hipness in everything from medicine and banking to technology and movies. The new owners of the New York Stock Exchange are based in Atlanta and some financial professionals are moving to low-tax states such as Florida.
For its part New Orleans, where I am working as a consultant , is challenging New York and Los Angeles in the film and video effects industry. Houston boasts the country’s largest medical center. Raleigh, Austin, Houston and San Antonio rank as the largest gainers of STEM jobs over the past decade.
Over time, numbers like these will have consequences politically, as well as culturally and economically.

The New Confederacy keeps growing and growing.
Now there will be further need to secure its borders against invaders not just from Mexico but from the Northern union thugs wanting to escape their Yahn-kee hellholes and mooch off the Red States whom have managed their governments, economies, self defense and selves more responsibly.

You can move here if you leave your Leftist ideology in the North. If you want to live with the Leftist policies, then please stay where you have to live with their consequences. Connect the dots.

As long as the South continues to cut taxes do away with income taxes then it will outstrip places like NY and CA.

the problem is most people because of our media don’t understand why their places are crapholes. they blame everything but the leftist policies and thus fail to leave those polices when they move.

The South’s economic resurgence will be the result mainly of 1) state income tax reform and 2)right-to-work laws.
The traditional American ethic, including the work ethic, that is more prevalent there won’t hurt either, as it improves the labor pool.

I am so ready to get this s-ecess-ion thing going, I’m like Secretariat at the gate.

Indeed, it’s a movement that’s growing by leaps and bounds.

I’ve decided to call it ‘The Divorce’.
It gets you around that ridiculous filter.

Yes, I live in CT but I want the Red States to break away already (and take natural resource rich western Pennsylvania with them). The border must then be heavily fortified against the North.
People are idiots, they will flee a liberal state because of taxes and cost of living, but continue to vote for the same morons in their new state. Southern states need to hammer home the differences in their economic policies in their school curriculum and all over their air waves.

Hence today the Leftists demonize the South. They fear the South will take them down.
petefrt on February 1, 2013 at 8:01 PM
Because the South, thanks to Right To Work is the last part of the country where anyone will build factories and make things? Also, it’s where the population is GROWING, whilst the North resembles childless Europe…
The irony is that if the Civil War were fought today it’d be the NORTH that wouldn’t be able to produce weapons of war…
In the South, we still make things. In the North, all they do is take things.
wildcat72 on February 1, 2013 at 8:12 PM
Leftists also realize that when it comes to representation by state in the military there is no match for the Southern states participation in defending our Constitution directly.
viking01 on February 1, 2013 at 8:13 PM
Let’s form our own union, amend the Constitution to narrow the commerce clause and federal welfare, and tell the North they are free to beg to get into Canada. If they’ll have them…
wildcat72 on February 1, 2013 at 8:20 PM
Yes, I have a long time conservative Democrat friend who moved from Maine to western Virginia, who says, “When the war breaks out, I want to be in the South, because they know how to fight, and they fight for the Constitution.”
petefrt on February 1, 2013 at 8:22 PM
Should have said, he’s a retired Army colonel, so he probably knows how to fight.
petefrt on February 1, 2013 at 8:30 PM
Nah. The left demonizes the South out of habit. It’s their comfort zone, and distracts them from the fact that they actually hate each other.

Speaking of things military but lighthearted… I remember (most likely during the Clintoon years) when a beach landing exercise in Spain took place at the wrong location resulting in a shore invasion amongst the sunbathers.
A master sergeant interviewed about the incident was quoted:
“There are few things more dangerous than an officer with a map.”
viking01 on February 1, 2013 at 8:46 PM
The biggest danger to we Southerners is our own success. Our success invites Liberals in who, like the parasitic locusts they are, wreak havoc in our states.
Just look what has happened to NC. Could NC elect Jesse Helms today? No way! NC voted or Obama in 208. Why? Leftist migrants following businesses that relocated to NC because of NC’s conservative, business friendly economic environment.
Now the Left is targeting TX.
How do we protect ourselves? We have to make the South as hostile to Liberals and Liberalism as feasibly possible. Work your butts off to get as much conservative policy passed now while most red states are still solidly conservative.
Red states must also become hostile to those seeking to live off the public dole.
Fight now or lose it all.

Ding ding ding.
The culture war is now at the state level. Do it.

I see what you did, Rebar.

From my own blog, an excerpt:

Oh yeah – and the South is the region that supplies the most military recruits. So that sh*t about soldiers firing on Americans – not down here they won’t.
