Boy Scouts no-gays policy change proposal draws backlash
The Boy Scouts of America faces intensifying criticism from the left and right over a proposal to move away from a mandatory no-gays membership policy and allow troop sponsors to decide the matter for themselves.
The Human Rights Campaign, a major gay-rights group that initially welcomed the BSA’s possible shift, said Thursday that it was inadequate and demanded that the Scouts adopt a nationwide policy to accept gays as scouts and adult leaders. …
Meanwhile, conservative groups which support the long-standing no-gays policy asked their followers to flood BSA headquarters with phone calls opposing any change. …
“The BSA national leadership were not prepared for the thousands of Americans who were shocked to hear that an organization that could always be counted on for standing for what’s right was about to cave in to homosexual activists and corporations,” Perkins said in an emailed appeal.

Maybe this explains the backlash ……….

No way I’d give another dime to BSA, nor would I allow my son to join, if they change the policy.
I doubt I’m the only one who feels this way.
The BSA is committing suicide if they continue down this road.

I’m shocked to learn that the gay mafia doesn’t actually value tolerance and freedom but rather dictats and forced acceptance.

If homosexual predators don’t have full access to these boys, well that’s a violation of their civil rights!

Speaking of, I wonder how their funding ended up last year?

In 2010, the Southern Poverty Law Center classified the FRC as an anti-gay hate group. You going to minimize the influence of a hate group? Where are your priorities? You have to fight hate when it’s still small. Like, you’ve got some short-haired rednecks on some college campus who like guns, talk about America being a great country, and put their hands over their hearts when they say the pledge of allegiance. Pretty soon you’ve got ROTC on your campus. I’m telling you, it starts small. Call out hate wherever you see it, and then, destroy it. Annihilate it.

Snark is really unattractive when practiced by an idiot.
GWB on February 1, 2013 at 11:43 AM
Did they really not expect this? It wasn’t going to be good enough for the left, and the right wasn’t going to take it lying down (so to speak). Even a caveman could have predicted that.
Bob's Kid on February 1, 2013 at 11:47 AM
BTW, if this policy goes through, packs and troops all over America will disappear as their adult leadership will dry up. I certainly won’t provide my volunteer hours (I’ve been an assistant scoutmaster and a committee member for about 10 years now) if the national organization will undercut the local ones in this fashion.
GWB on February 1, 2013 at 11:48 AM
It’s like Roe v. Wade. Leaving it up to the states isn’t good enough. Everyone has to do it the liberal way. Everyone must conform. They can’t decide what to do on their own. They might make a mistake!
Paul-Cincy on February 1, 2013 at 11:50 AM
See that, everyone has to have their agenda shoved down their throat, everyone. Typical liberals. Then again, they enjoy having things shoved down their throat.

I am currently a cub master, and have volunteered while all my boys went through scouts. If they change the policy, we are done. My oldest is almost through the program and getting close to doing his eagle project. It will be a shame to have all his energy be “wasted” but I think the lesson it will teach him about standing up for what is right will be invaluable.
Kristamatic on February 1, 2013 at 11:58 AM
I’m just spit-balling here, but if the The Human Rights Campaign HATE Christians so much, can’t they just start their own group and call it the ‘Gay Scouts’?
reddevil on February 1, 2013 at 12:03 PM
I’m sure once the policy change goes through you’ll be the first to sign up wont you pervert?
jawkneemusic on February 1, 2013 at 12:04 PM
I’m actually somewhat happy to see this: it’s a huge tactical mistake by the HRC. Incrementalism under the unworkable “federalist” proposal being floated would probably have won them the day in a generation. The “inclusive” troops, councils and their supporters would have isolated, ostracized and knifed their religious brothers in the back over the passage of time.
Ironically, the HRC’s fangs-bearing will likely help maintain the status quo.
But, yes, it shows that it is clearly their-way-or-the-highway. Not that we didn’t already know that.

The only purpose is to destroy the BSA, for the Sin of advocating anti-progressive values.
Progressivism is a religion, and is far less tolerant than even islam.

In my letter to the BSA:
“If an FOS presenter felt so strongly about the values of Scouting that he or she would visit multiple units every year to raise money, then how would he or she feel if the BSA no longer supported the values of Scouting?”

The phones at the national BSA office are ringing off the hook with wait times of up to 40 minutes. I am a part time employee with the BSA. As an employee, I have no opinion; but as a Cub Scout leader, Asst. District Commission, Troop Committee Member and Silver Beaver awardee, I’ll quit everything before I comply with a policy that goes against my religious beliefs. I took a job with the BSA and volunteer my time because of their values. They change them, I’m done.

HRC is overreaching. Let the BSA stop discrimination on their on time. They’re already taking the first steps.

I am literally shaking and having difficulties typing, because this is one of the nastiest comments I have seen in a very, very long time.
Sir, I am an Eagle Scout. My father, a former Troop master, and his two brothers are Eagle Scouts. My two cousins are Eagle Scouts, both sons of my uncle who is also a Troop master. We are all grandsons/sons of my Grandfather, an Eagle Scout.
You are willing to destroy your OWN son’s accomplishment because of your disdain for other people? An accomplishment that has benefited me in job applications, college acceptance and more importantly – in my demeanor and drive. I can understand removing yourself, but intentionally destroying and punishing your own son because of some disgusting antipathy you have for being inclusive?
What the F&CK is wrong with you?
ZachV on February 1, 2013 at 12:24 PM
Yea, I know. Was trying to be a little factitious. The Human Rights Campaign is just another in a long line of CHRISTIAN HATE GROUPS.

The gays have also stated that letting individual troops decide is only a step to FORCING all to accept it.
Just how much shoving and strong arm tactics will it take to motivate people to FIGHT BACK?!

Good for you Kristamatic. My son is a cub scout and this Saturday will be his first pinewood derby. If the BSA adopts this policy it will be his last.
Kataklysmic on February 1, 2013 at 12:35 PM
Throughout the country’s history, bigots have pulled out of things when “undesirables” were let in. It used to be women, then blacks, now gays. They’ve lost to progress every single time. They are to lose again.
Good riddance!

Bitter Clinger on February 1, 2013 at 12:40 PM
Let’s say this policy is adopted. Should I then go to my church council and recommend that the BSA meetings be held elsewhere? I mean, what would happen to our church if it becomes known that some sort of inappropriate “badges” were being earned, IYKWIM?
Jeffster on February 1, 2013 at 12:40 PM
The only thing the progressive lobby will succeed in doing here is destroying a once great organization. If the BSA folds (which looks likely) what you’ll have at the end of the day is a Scouting program that a bunch of large corporations are tripping over themselves to fund (to show how “progressive they are) but no one who wants to be a member. Nail, coffin, some assembly required.
Kataklysmic on February 1, 2013 at 12:41 PM
I consider being an Eagle Scout one of my most important accomplishments in my life. As has been repeated to me in almost every single Eagle Scout Court of Honor that I have attended – from those that were my mentor, to the scouts that I helped and mentored; only 2 in 100 boys who have ever join Boy Scouts will become an Eagle.
Boys will join the ranks of Eagles like Neil Armstrong, Gerald Ford, Hank Aaron, Lamar Alexander, Steven Spielberg, James Lovell and hundreds of other accomplished men in this country.
They learn life skills like commitment, honor, honesty … Christ, I can recite the motto, oath and Eagle Charge better than I can any my multiplication tables.
And this man wants to destroy his own son’s accomplishment? Deprive him of his own greatest accomplishment? You people are revolting.
I cannot imagine the pain of having to look back on your life, and seeing how damn close you were, and knowing that it was not you who failed, but that of your parent’s close-mindedness. That’s the type of resentment a son will take to his grave.
ZachV on February 1, 2013 at 12:45 PM
ZachV It’s a called character and moral courage to stand up for what you believe rather than cowering to a group that promotes perversion. It seems all the BSA means to you was a chance to add something impressive to your college resume and job application.

Ah, yes, the Left’s “Ratchet of Progress.” With the false analogy of racism and sexism attached. It’s interesting that the cause can’t stand alone, but has to clutch at Rosa Parks’ skirts. Suggests some adequacy problems, I think. Might want to think about toning down the ick-factor in the pride parades.
Anyway, the fist of equality has broken its knuckles before. See also, “Bury You!, We Will” and “Does the Pope Have?, How Many Divisions”

What is revolting, is the progressive homosexual agenda having to force a private organization to kowtow to their demands, demands that are directly contradicting the mission of the BSA.
What is revolting, is that homosexuals would rather destroy the organization rather than just accept that they’re not welcome.

Except for the progressives who wanted to eliminate the “lesser” races.
And the progressives who try to destroy those who have a different ideology.
And the progressives who need to resort to the force of government to put those who disagree with them in their place.
The progressive movement has it’s own long list of “undesirables” it targets, isolates and tries to eliminate.
