Republicans are AWOL on women in combat
They are doing so on naïve assumptions. The first is that physical standards will not change, and only those few women who meet ones developed for men will be placed on the front lines. The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Martin Dempsey, has already breached that defense: “If we do decide that a particular standard is so high that a woman couldn’t make it, the burden is now on the service to come back and explain to the secretary, why is it that high? Does it really have to be that high?” Thus were the Armed Forces welcomed to the world of disparate impact that corporate attorneys have already come to know so well.
The second mistaken assumption is that only women who volunteer for combat will ever have to engage in it. It has been reasonably well understood until now that any man who joins the military, whatever his reasons for doing it, becomes the military’s to use as it sees fit. There is no reason to think women will be treated any differently by a military that officially denies that average differences between the sexes should have any impact on its treatment of individuals. (Nor will there be any reason to restrict draft registration to men — as we trust the courts will find in short order once this policy takes effect.)

Name one conservative policy in which the Republicans are not AWOL?

The NR editors wrote THIS?!?
Have they had their heads up their asses for the past twenty years?!

If the standards change you have all the ammunition you need to be critical of the decision, doubt that happens and no way women will be involuntarily sent to the infantry, the enlisted types won’t join and if they they do get sent to the infantry they’ll just get pregnant or refuse to serve. It’ll be a mess but no doubt there are some women who will want to try, let them, but it will be few and far between. My wife, USMC for 12 years says don’t count on women joining for the infantry, its an officer thing and even they don’t know what they are asking for.

I didn’t click on the article and I couldn’t get past the falcons sentence above.
If anyone thinks that standards won’t change, your fooling yourself.
catmman on January 31, 2013 at 9:54 PM
Second, not falcons.
Auto-correct, a blessing and a curse…

Man, I really should have read the article…

Oh sure Republican’s say something, and just in time for the several election cycles headlines scream “Republican War on Women.”
F’ed up though it is wait until we regain White House, hold women to same PT and weight standards watch them fail miserably, rescind the stupid with proof in hand the idea is stupid.
LincolntheHun on January 31, 2013 at 9:58 PM
That’s what I figure, anything Republicans say will be used against them once their war on women commences in time for the next elections.

They might just realize that combat will be an unknown word for the next 1450 days. This is not a hill to die on at least now. The people who are all for woman in combat are all anti-combat and anti-military. It is not for woman in combat but to reduce the military which they see as pure evil. And thanks to the election that is what will happen. The military from top to bottom will get huge cuts with SecDef Hagel and it will be lucky if there are 150K people in combat roles either male or female.

AWOL=Republican
Absence, driven by fear, is what defines the GOP

And if Republicans say nothing then crap will be made up to foster the “war on women” theme for the next elections. No reason not to take the fight to the feminists and those on the left that see the military as another fun little playground for their destructive Marxist agenda.
But then again this is the Republican party we’re talking about. Never miss a chance to take the gutless option.

Sleeper Cell?
Del Dolemonte on January 31, 2013 at 11:57 PM
Gosh darn it, why won’t Republicans object so that liberals can continue their fake claims of a war on women and continue to demagogue sexism on their opponents to further divide the electorate in a lame attempt to win the woman vote and feed the left’s false narrative??
Dollayo on February 1, 2013 at 12:54 AM
By the way, that minority weasel is making conservative noises again. Does he think he’s giving us hope or fooling anybody? Maybe it’s sort of a random tic.

Who is being naive here? You probably believe the border will be secured and urban areas will abolish their sanctuary policies if we grant amnesty to 11 million illegal aliens.
Oh and by the way standards have already been changed. Just because you don’t see it in writing doesn’t mean it hasn’t happened. In a particular Navy pilot program you get 2 chances to pass a test, but some women were given 4 chances. Why? There was pressure increase gender diversity.
