Study: Occupy was disproportionately rich and overwhelmingly white
According to a new study from sociologists at the City University of New York, more than a third of activists in the Occupy movement in New York City had household incomes above $100,000, placing them at the cusp of the top quintile of income distribution in America. Researchers surveyed 729 people who participated in a May 1 rally last year and were involved in the “occupation” of Zuccotti Park in the fall of 2011, and found that they were more affluent, whiter, younger, much more highly educated, and more likely to be male than the average New Yorker.
Non-Hispanic whites constituted 62 percent of all respondents, though they make up only 33 percent of New York City residents. While only about a third of Americans hold bachelors’ degrees, 76 percent of respondents who had completed their education had a four-year college degree and 39 percent had graduate degrees. Among college graduates, more than a quarter went to top-ranked schools, which might help explain why the majority of graduates under 30 had some student debt. While 10 percent of participants were unemployed, 71 percent were employed in professional occupations. Eight percent were “blue collar.”

‘Racists.’
It’s the only explanation.

And rapists and people who don’t shower regularly.

You mean that people that don’t have daddy’s trust fund to provide food, pot, and condom money can’t afford to skeeze out in a public place being a dirty hippie for months at a time. Who’da thought?

Shocker. Most of history’s Leftists were the bored, spoiled scions of wealthy families. Very few Leftist revolutionaries were oppressed minorities.

They were also disproportionately douchebags.

One wonders what these guys invested in during the OWS protests. Apple? There do seem to have been a disproportionate number of iPad thefts during this thing.
Another thought. Did anyone analyse the feces of that guy doing his duty on the police car. Did the scatology indicate traces of lobster bisque or caviar?

My point: to make their utopia, these young men would steal from everyone, including their parents. What they are unwilling to do is to make the commitment of taking their own personal wealth and distributing it. This seems to be a big problem with liberals — they do not understand the importance the Lord attached to wilful personal alms-giving. They think they can attain salvation by selling the possessions of others. But, then again, maybe they aren’t Christian.
unclesmrgol on January 30, 2013 at 11:47 AM
Indeed. And the kicker is that they are pretty much immune from the effects of the social engineering, planning, and nannying they inflict upon the “oppressed.”

Like Marx and Engels, who essentially lived off the good graces of Engels’ wealthy capitalist father. Angry and stupid ingrates.

This is not a lesson about giving freely.
Since we know from other scripture that it is impossible to gain eternal life by doing good, then this passage must be understood as an object lesson.
This man was arrogant, presumptuous and boastful. He boasted that he had followed every law from his youth. We Christians all know that is impossible, but this man was somehow convinced of his own righteousness.
Jesus took the wind out of his sails really fast by asking him to do the ONE THING Jesus knew he couldn’t make himself do.
And that is the lesson. That we are unable to earn our way into eternal life by good deeds.
The Rogue Tomato on January 30, 2013 at 11:54 AM
I assume that the young man was truthful, and was, in the ways he described, rightous. What Jesus was offering him was a promotion — the chance to be a disciple, and the man found that the commitment was too much.
But Jesus does say here that acts matter — that you must keep the Law. And it is, on one level, a lesson about giving freely — do you not think that Jesus speaks on exactly one level?
You have read the passage that comes immediately after this one — the disciples realize that they themselves cannot meet Jesus’ requirements, and what is Jesus’ response?
My point is that Jesus expects from us not that we, in our almsgiving — which is an external representation of our faith — take from others to perform said almsgiving — no — he wants it to hurt us, to be personal to us.
I see that in the Scripture I cited — and you should too.
unclesmrgol on January 30, 2013 at 12:06 PM
Correction. Rather: Do you think that Jesus speaks on exactly one level?

I don’t, because it misses the context and contradicts other scripture. But you’re free to interpret it any way you like.
The Rogue Tomato on January 30, 2013 at 12:19 PM
Yep. All too much like how Congress isn’t on Obamacare, and those in “government service” aren’t subject to Di-Fi’s unconstitutional gun grab… But at least they’ll be hit by the higher taxes on the illegal insider investments offered to them due to their government position.
Gingotts on January 30, 2013 at 12:22 PM
So they could not really be “down for the cause” then….
