“I want shaming. It keeps society in order.”
Host Bill O’Reilly asked Carolla if there should be exceptions for health problems that lead to obesity, but the “Not Taco Bell Material” author said any exceptions would ultimately be pointless.
“Well, listen, I think they are going to get beat up by society no matter what,” Carolla replied. “I mean, prom season is not great when you’re fat. And dating is tough. And even job interviews. I mean, society gets its pound of flesh out of these people. … But, eventually when there is more of them than there are of us, they will literally crush us. This way, if you think about it … they’re going to take over the world with their enormity.”

War on Fatties.
CorporatePiggy on January 29, 2013 at 6:05 PM
Ya know,
There was a time when folks were ashamed to accept food stamps, welfare, etc. Now with the government’s “Everyone’s a victim!” mentality, making sure that you understand it isn’t YOUR fault, well, there’s no need for that pesky ol’ shame thing anymore. Spit.
I have no problem bringing shame back into our society. It’d do a LOT of folks some good.
TKindred on January 29, 2013 at 6:05 PM
So do I, but for far more important things than just gross guts!
OldEnglish on January 29, 2013 at 6:07 PM
Nay, with food inflation we will all be thin. Bernanke is working on that.
Oil Can on January 29, 2013 at 6:07 PM
I agree, we need shame. Unfortunately there is no shame. Shame requires that people face CONSEQUENCES for not fitting in.
As an example, as long as we back stop everyone at the government level with welfare, there is no consequences. Thus we will have ever increasing roles.
There is no shame in collecting disability, why? because the government has no limit set on how much it can pay, so having too many people claim disability has no consequence.
Old people living off the slave labor of other people’s children, again, lack of shame…
As long as the government is providing, society cannot SHAME anyone, because the feeling of SHAME is tied directly to a desire to avoid consequences.

So, shame people for eating junk food, but give them a free pass on marital infidelity? Condemn them for their carbon footprint while excusing their profanity?
That’s a pretty screwed up society.
Stoic Patriot on January 29, 2013 at 6:08 PM
How fat does someone need to be for us to shame them?
thebrokenrattle on January 29, 2013 at 6:09 PM
When was the last time they have seen their private parts?
Oil Can on January 29, 2013 at 6:12 PM
I’ll pass.
Blake on January 29, 2013 at 6:13 PM
He misused the word “enormity.” Shame on him.
SarahW on January 29, 2013 at 6:18 PM
Hehe, but are we gonna ask people that in public? They are private after all. Really, it’s not our business.
thebrokenrattle on January 29, 2013 at 6:28 PM
I’ve been saying this for years. Our society has lost Shame as a useful tool to correct behavior.
portlandon on January 29, 2013 at 6:31 PM
Going as planned by the communists. The progressives picked up where they left off.
astonerii on January 29, 2013 at 6:38 PM
I get your point but
I think shame/guilt have been lost in our society …and that is a bad thing.
CW on January 29, 2013 at 6:40 PM
So basically, we must drive fat people INTO the shadows.
xblade on January 29, 2013 at 6:43 PM
No, let them walk – it’ll do them good! ::evil grin::
OldEnglish on January 29, 2013 at 6:50 PM
Really funny, Adam. But let’s be serious. When there are more of them than us, will you want to be constantly and mercilessly shamed for being thin? Will you support their plan to mock you for not being fat every time you show your face in public?
Dusty on January 29, 2013 at 6:56 PM
Oh, I fully agree that the loss of shame portends a horrendous future for the country. But if we’re going to reintroduce shame, we shouldn’t do so by wasting those sentiments on trivial nonsense. A sense of proportion has become utterly lost.
We live in a society where we have a media that’s now portraying illegal immigrants as unfortunate souls rather than deliberate trespassers. We condemn guns for the deaths of 20 children while lauding abortion that results in the death of more than 1 million children per year. We object to wiretaps on the grounds of a right to privacy, while excusing the paparazzi’s nude celebrity photos as “free speech.”
We have lost all capacity as a society for rational thought and sound judgment.
Stoic Patriot on January 29, 2013 at 6:57 PM
shame them fatties into the gym, then shame them right back out. it’s totally win/win, or something!
Jeddite on January 29, 2013 at 6:57 PM
So it’s okay to shame some slut on the dole with her bunch of bastards? No? How about shaming the infanticide performed by so-called “doctors”? No?
Clearly I’m missing something here.
