How Rubio evolved on immigration reform
During a March 28, 2010 Fox News debate against then-Gov. Charlie Crist, Rubio said: “He would have voted for the McCain plan. I think that plan is wrong, and the reason I think it’s wrong is that if you grant amnesty, as the governor proposes that we do, in any form, whether it’s back of the line or so forth, you will destroy any chance we will ever have of having a legal immigration system that works here in America.”
In a CNN debate on Oct 24, 2010, moderator Candy Crowley asked, “So your plan is that you’re going to close the borders, get the electronic system, fix the legal system, and then do what?” Rubio responded: “And then you’ll have a legal immigration system that works. And you’ll have people in this country that are without documents that will be able to return to the — will be able to leave this country, return to their homeland, and try to re-enter through our system that now functions, a system that makes sense…Earned path to citizenship is basically code for amnesty.”
The legislation Rubio backed Monday requires illegal immigrants to pass a criminal background check, hold down a job, pay fines and back taxes, learn English, and go to the back of the line – just like previous proposals.

Mitt Romney Part II

He needs to “evolve” back to his original position.
Except for the “back of the line” business, if you were ever here illegally, you should be deported and banned for life from ever coming back.
Rebar on January 29, 2013 at 1:46 PM
Rubio likes to talks out of both sides of his mouth – I just heard him on Rush talking about immigration – he’s Perfect for “motor mouth” label — he just eats up all the air in the room jabbering in generalities!

Thank you John McCain and Marco Rubio.

Evolve=sold out.
McCain rubbed up on him, I mean, off.
RovesChins on January 29, 2013 at 1:48 PM
One of our most promising political stars, flaming out for an incorrectly perceived short term gain. What a disgrace.
Doomberg on January 29, 2013 at 1:48 PM
He’s just staking his claim in the new tribal America, where skin color trumps all.

He didn’t evolve…he got elected. The only time these guys care about what the public thinks is in an election year.
Rocks on January 29, 2013 at 1:50 PM
LOL. Should I read the rest, or does the story actually get around to explaining how three-headed toads are a product of natural evolution.
On the flip-side, is the real purpose of this story to advance the idea that these arguments for amnesty are idiotic, or is it just another progressive effort to destroy Marco Rubio? (Not that Rubio isn’t doing more than enough of that on his own.)
Dusty on January 29, 2013 at 1:51 PM
Evolve = Jeb Bush started pulling his puppet strings.
Evolve = Big business chamber of commerce cheap labor lobby got to him.
Evolve = Former closet political opportunist came out of the closet.
Evolve = Stuck ginsu knife in back of Tea Party that helped get him elected.
Ad nauseum, ad infinitum
TxAnn56 on January 29, 2013 at 1:53 PM
I’m a little disappointed in Rush. He had Rubio on to talk about his amnesty plan and Rush was basically swooning after the interview. I wasn’t expecting that.
Kataklysmic on January 29, 2013 at 1:55 PM
How Rubio caved on immigration reform. Fixed it.
Clink on January 29, 2013 at 2:01 PM
Evolution my adz. He didn’t evolve at all. He just feels safe airing his true beliefs now. Rubio used the Tea Party, Jim DeMint, the Senate Conservatives Fund, etc., as a vehicle to power. He never really shared their beliefs.
steebo77 on January 29, 2013 at 2:02 PM
As someone said on Twitter, “Como se dice 2016.”
HerneTheHunter on January 29, 2013 at 2:08 PM
Rush is singing his praises now. I guess it’s down to the Boss Emeritus, Laura Ingraham and Ann Coulter now.
TxAnn56 on January 29, 2013 at 2:10 PM
The problem here is that he was promising. It was ALWAYS unearned praise that Rubio gets. What has he accomplished to be a star? Ther in lies the problem. We get retards on our side lionizing anyone with a heartbeat that is not white with never a thought for actually looking at their records or demanding they have a record.
Hold their feet to the fire, always! Particularly when they are rookies!
astonerii on January 29, 2013 at 2:12 PM
It would seem that Rush has evolved away from conservationism. We have lost Rush…
SWalker on January 29, 2013 at 2:14 PM
This guy was a Tea Party darling, endorsed by the Snowbilly herself.
Scott Brown was seen as a Bostonian Ronald Reagan.
Rand Paul is confusing people.
There seems to be a pattern here – and its why I am still highly skeptical about Ted Cruz.
CorporatePiggy on January 29, 2013 at 2:20 PM
Sarah never endorsed Rubio
journeymike on January 29, 2013 at 2:31 PM
ah, too bad.
coulter adn ingraham have little power. I’m sure you had more effect than those two with your contacting of Texas reps. Malkin’s awesome, she has clout, but she can’t do it by herself.
sauldalinsky on January 29, 2013 at 2:33 PM
Wrong. Rubio was seen as better than Charlie Crist, and was a Romneybot, not a Palin one.
Wrong. Brown was seen as a better alternative than Coakley. ANd was a Romneybot, not a Palin one.
Good grief, squishes and libs lie and obfuscate exactly alike, don’t they?
ddrintn on January 29, 2013 at 2:38 PM
Rush has usually been upfront that he’s a Republican water carrier first and a conservative second. You can’t really blame him, as he’s talented and paid really well for it. I was hoping yesterday that he’s close to retirement, so he may be willing to buck the party line. Oh well.
sauldalinsky on January 29, 2013 at 2:39 PM
You tell yourself that if it gets you through the night, honey.
These were Tea Party candidates who generated a heck of a lot of enthusiasm from TPers who really should have been a bit more temperate in their remarks. As it is there is a lot of butthurt and denial.
CorporatePiggy on January 29, 2013 at 2:45 PM
It doesn’t have to get me through the night to be true, honey. And it doesn’t make you any less of a jaunidiced, unprincipled slob, honey.
ddrintn on January 29, 2013 at 2:47 PM
Yeah, Sarah never endorsed Marco Rubio.
CorporatePiggy on January 29, 2013 at 2:48 PM
* er “jaundiced”. Before the slob breaks out the dictionary.
ddrintn on January 29, 2013 at 2:48 PM
Kinda, sorta.
steebo77 on January 29, 2013 at 2:48 PM
She said she loved the guy. A lot of people did in 2010. So?
ddrintn on January 29, 2013 at 2:49 PM
LOL, “temperate” as in “Charlie Crist is TEH AWESOME!!!!!” Another important message from the Loser Wing.
ddrintn on January 29, 2013 at 2:52 PM
A lot of the people who hero worshipped the people I mentioned also hero worshipped Sheriff Fatman, despite him being a gun grabbing uber-RINO.
You don’t get it do you?
CorporatePiggy on January 29, 2013 at 2:56 PM
I think we can all agree the majority of Americans want illegals to be granted amnesty. /ism
trs on January 29, 2013 at 2:57 PM
Rubio is a typical finger-in-wind, opportunist “progressive”.
Pork-Chop on January 29, 2013 at 3:01 PM
Take up that typically slobby “argument” with someone who actually “worshiped” “Sheriff Fatman” as opposed to someone who merely thought he was better than Corzine.
YOU don’t get it.
ddrintn on January 29, 2013 at 3:03 PM
That case is not proven yet but he sure showing some fancy footwork.
If he came out and said ‘Lets do Amnesty’ all the delusional fools will come out and say
- Palin never liked him
- He was never a Tea Party person
- He had relations with Romney
etc.
And then they’ll look to Rand Paul / a.n. other ‘conservative’ as the next great hope.
CorporatePiggy on January 29, 2013 at 3:08 PM
I stand by what i said. Sarah didn’t officially endorsed Rubio. She gave him a thumbs up against Crist but that was about it . Many we’re wondering why she didn’t and fact Rubio told a reporter that he would loved a Palin endorsement and wanted her to come down there but she didnt

Two things,
1. Your husband is not hitting your spot,
2. He makes you wear a “snowbilly” wig and glasses at night.
HerneTheHunter on January 29, 2013 at 3:19 PM
Kinda, sorta isn’t an endorsement – officially or what not. Sarah officially endorsed many candidates that year but not Rubio
journeymike on January 29, 2013 at 3:21 PM
The truth is, that Rubio (vs. Charlie Crist) was by far the best choice for Florida and the US in 2010 – of course Sarah Palin liked him and supported his bid (although she never endorsed him), as did the Tea Party – there is nothing wrong with that. BUT – now that he HAS CALLED for amnesty for illegals, he has revealed his true progressive/liberal beliefs. No candidate is 100%, no candidate is perfect, but, calling for amnesty, and refusing to call for enforcing current immigration / border security laws is a blatant act of treason – it is unlikely that he will receive any conservative support for his actions.
Rubio wants to be president, and, he is simply taking a page from the obama playbook – he has gone into full “progressive” mode and is desperately trying to pander his way into the White House.
Pork-Chop on January 29, 2013 at 3:23 PM
He realized that he could become President??
As for Rubio in 2010..
1. Palin was totes willing to endorse McCain’s ideas on immigration in 2008.
2. Known RINO Jim DeMint was one of Rubio’s earliest backers.
Illinidiva on January 29, 2013 at 3:40 PM
Which is exactly why they asked her what she thought of him in the first place.
