Audio: “Calling 911 and waiting is no longer your best options
In the ad released earlier this month, Clarke says: “I’m Sheriff David Clarke, and I want to talk to you about something personal…your safety. It’s no longer a spectator sport; I need you in the game, but are you ready? With officers laid-off and furloughed, simply calling 911 and waiting is no longer your best option.”
He continues: “You can beg for mercy from a violent criminal, hide under the bed, or you can fight back; but are you prepared? Consider taking a certified safety course in handling a firearm so you can defend yourself until we get there. You have a duty to protect yourself and your family. We’re partners now. Can I count on you?”

Thank you Sheriff Clark! Someone who realizes you need to defend and protect you/your family when the law isn’t there to do so! May hundreds and maybe thousands of others suggest the same?

Just skimmed thru the Politico comments, and 95% of them side with the sheriff.

It never was. Anybody who believed that was a fool.

Historians will look back on the whole 911 thing and think how quaint it was that people thought they could call a number and have security rushed to them in time to actually help.
They will construct a bell curve of police response over the years that will be of extremely short lifespan, where the conditions of population density, crime rates, technology, and available money aligned in such a way to allow people to surrender responsibility for their personal protection to a phone order security force.
We’re obviously far on the back side of that bell curve, heading back to a situation where people can’t and ought not rely on 911 as a primary source of security.

That’s because evil Republicans have cut off all federal funding for your local police force…
The cops are having to do substitute teaching jobs since the Republicans fired all the teachers…

No kidding, officer. Calling 911 is always an unpleasant experience. When you need the cops, it takes them an hour to show up, but when you’re minding your own business they always manage to be there.
If I called my cops during a robbery in progress, I’d feel comfortable knowing they’d be there in a brisk 30-45 minutes to fill out a report for my insurance claim.
