“Significant brain activity” detected in Ariel Sharon after seven years
Ben-Gurion University on Sunday said Sharon responded to external stimuli at Soroka Hospital in Beersheba.
He was shown pictures of his family and listened to recordings of his son’s voice while undergoing a special brain imaging scan. The university said “significant brain activity was observed … indicating appropriate processing of these stimulations.”
However, Sharon remains in a deep coma.

It must be a special kind of horror to be trapped inside a body that will not function.
Prayers for him.

If by “significant” you mean greater than zero, then maybe.

My father died almost exactly when Sharon went into a coma. It’s undoubtedly been less bad for my family than for Sharon’s over the past seven years. I can’t imagine what they’ve gone through.

Then perhaps communication with him of these facts should be done along with further brain activity monitoring. Perhaps encouraging family communication with Mr. Sharon about themselves and events with the understanding that his responding conventionally may not be possible yet their input may be very much desired by him.
There are ways of his responding such as “move your left foot” for “yes” even though he may not be able to do so physically. The intention expressed neurologically whilst monitored could… could bridge the coma.
