“The NFL players have a union, they’re grown men, they can make some of these decisions on their own, and most of them are well-compensated for the violence they do to their bodies,” Obama said. “You read some of these stories about college players who undergo some of these same problems with concussions and so forth and then have nothing to fall back on. That’s something that I’d like to see the NCAA think about.”

Most of them are not compensated. Colleges gives them free tuition to bogus classes as long as their bodies hold out then they throw them in the trash and raise tuition another 8% because they are greedy pigs.

It’s interesting that the Comments at the ESPN story — obviously a much less partisan group that HA — are about four-to-one anti-Obama. That surprised me, given that Obama’s comments were pretty reasonable.

That sentence you’re commenting on was explicitly referring to NFL players, who are in fact well compensated. He then went on to contrast that with college players, who are usually not compensated (“have nothing to fall back on”). It sounds like you completely agree with what Obama is saying.

What gets me is his celebrated push on gun control probably won’t even save a “single life” (his words), but as the first black President, from Chicago, with the bully pulpit, he’s in a unique position to help cut back on the 500+ black kids and young adults killing each other in Chicago every year, and he’s doing zero on that. Most (not all) of the young men who come out of college athletic programs are just that-men, who have learned to grow and develop without uncle Sugar’s help. Your comment is two faced in that you seem to want the colleges to dump sports as “they use youts to line their own pockets…” welcome to life. We’re all used to line someone’s pockets. Most of us enjoy the ride. You apparently do not. And while I agree that colleges are pits of liberal excrement, it is still up to the mind of the student to determine accuracy of the professor. If the students follow the mantra of the lib professor blindly, they probably shouldn’t have been in college in the first place. I argued conservative points for hours with my poly sci professors and came away with fantastic marks; better than the sheep that were in the class.
