McCain: Republicans must accept a path to citizenship in immigration reform
“That has to be also part of it,” McCain told ABC News’ Martha Raddatz on “This Week” when asked whether a pathway to citizenship would be a component of reform. “There’s a new appreciation on both sides of the aisle including, maybe more importantly on the Republican side of the aisle, that we have to enact comprehensive immigration reform.”
McCain said that a small group of Senators will release the principles of a comprehensive, not “piecemeal,” reform bill this week.
“I’m very pleased with the progress,” McCain said. “It’s not that much different from what we tried to do in 2007.”

Can’t we just deport that senile old traitor instead…
SWalker on January 27, 2013 at 11:23 AM
What? I thought there WAS a path to citizenship in our immigration program. My neighbor immigrated from Mexico almost 20 years ago and he and his entire family are U.S. Citizens.Nice folks and pillars of he community. When did the path to citizenship go away?
MikeA on January 27, 2013 at 11:24 AM
I voted for Sarah Palin. I have to keep repeating that or my head will bust open.

The GOP is setting the stage for its own destruction.
It will split the party between the more conservative elements and the more establishment elements.
It will alienate the working class away from the Republican Party.
The Republican Party will never get any credit for granting amnesty, and it will not endear Hispanics to them. The Democrats will steal the credit, claim victory and it will be a victory for them and the Republicans will look like they caved to the Democrats.
And finally, the Republicans will be importing themselves out of office, because the overwhelming majority of illegals are government-dependent, hence, they have no connection with the message or platform of the Republican Party and will vote for the Democrats all the time to keep their government benefits coming.
TxAnn56 on January 27, 2013 at 11:26 AM
Sure, Juan. Right after the border fence is finished.
Naturally Curly on January 27, 2013 at 11:26 AM
Would this be the Sarah Palin who told Bill O’Reilly there should be a path to citizenship?
Marcus on January 27, 2013 at 11:28 AM
In other words: Amnesty.
nazo311 on January 27, 2013 at 11:28 AM
Democrats and Republicans must accept responsibility and culpability for the enforcement failures of the last “path to citizenship”.
rhombus on January 27, 2013 at 11:30 AM
I thought there was a path to citizenship? How did all these legal immigrants become legal?
Kaptain Amerika on January 27, 2013 at 11:30 AM
Oh sure, there’s a legal path to citizenship now. They mean they need to improve the illegal path to citizenship. Proof positive that illegal always beats legal when it comes to getting things done! We don’t need no stinkin’ badges.
rhombus on January 27, 2013 at 11:34 AM
That’s why the Dems are doing it. To destroy the GOP before 2014.
And to get all these illegal drivers’ licenses that can be used to register to vote by 2014, so they can vote Dem.
The Dems and MSM will give the Dems credit for dragging the raaacist GOP to the bargaining table. The Stupid Party RINOs can’t see this. They actually think that pandering will get votes.

Comprehensive = We get all the Hensive, they do none of the Compre!
Path to Citizenship will be implemented within 24 hours of passage of the bill.
Secure the border? Don’t make me laugh.
jaydee_007 on January 27, 2013 at 11:37 AM
Sarah Palin is FOR comprehensive immigration – she just thinks we should secure the borders first to ensure we don’t have this problem again.
Quite reasonable.
HondaV65 on January 27, 2013 at 11:38 AM
“O’Reilly, of course, pointed out the obvious, that this wasn’t an ideal situation, and some path to amnesty was necessary because of the sheer number of people involved. “It makes me uncomfortable that we’re even going to go down that path… American citizens who are in here lawfully are the ones who should get the first shot,” she [Palin] responded, and again O’Reilly stopped her from making generalities, noting how complicated the situation is. She agreed to a path to citizenship.”
Marcus on January 27, 2013 at 11:38 AM
Traitors/sellouts like McCain, Rubio et al are just shills for the pro-amnesty business lobby and the Chamber of Commerce who just love their cheap labor. They don’t give a rat’s a$$ about this country. It’s Groundhog Day, a sequel to 2007.
TxAnn56 on January 27, 2013 at 11:40 AM
The comprehensive solution won’t impact the 2014 elections and may not impact the 2016 elections at all. No one is talking about waving a magic wand and pronouncing everyone a citizen. All of the solutions have time frames and requirements that must be met – and some even have “buy-ins” where the illegals have to pay a fee of thousands of dollars before becoming citizens.
This won’t be done by 2014.
HondaV65 on January 27, 2013 at 11:41 AM
NO, you dumb shit, we don’t need to just give away citizenship! Why should we reward someone that broke the law to get here the right to vote and instantly become a ward of the state, when we are already broke. If you want to allow them work permits I would go along with that if you also revoke the “anchor babies!” McCain, you really are an idiot – you stupid sticker is in the mail.
rgranger on January 27, 2013 at 11:43 AM
I know without any doubt that these bozos will find a way to legalize the millions of illegal aliens, so how about we add a requirement that the new “pathway to citizenship” must include payment of all the same taxes of all types as other citizens, that any money sent out of the country for the first ten years will cause the path to citizenship to end, and that they have to be in the country, working and paying taxes, for a minimum of 5 years before any welfare benefits are possible.Or is that racist?
MikeA on January 27, 2013 at 11:48 AM
I can’t understand how the GOP can’t get on the commonsense side of this debate.
For national security reasons alone, can’t they first demand border enforcement and paint the Dems as radical for ignoring it.
Then, nobody likes a cheater, but it seems impossible to toss all illegal immigrants out. So, after the border is secure, why not a yearlong period during which they have to come out of the shadows to be accounted for. Fine them, whatever else. Deport anyone guilty of any crime. Begin a long probationary period for them. When the probationary period is up, then they go to the back of the line that then exists to become citizens.
Along the way, conservatives need to repeatedly inform Americans that Reagan’s amnesty was completely undermined by the absence of follow through on border enforcement. Then, maybe they should start showing clips of Californina and show them what’s heading their way if we don’t get a handle on the border.
BuckeyeSam on January 27, 2013 at 11:49 AM
We don’t have an immigration problem, we have an entitlement problem by illegal invaders who think they should be given US citizenship.
RedRobin145 on January 27, 2013 at 11:53 AM
I beg to differ. Rs need to remember what happened in NC’s 7th district in November. A blue dog Dem, McIntyre, defeated a pro-amnesty Republican, Rouzer, in a conservative district.
This is a straight victory for immigration Patriots. Mike McIntyre has a Numbers USA career ranking of B+ and a record this Congress of A. Rouzer was outed as a Cheap Labor Lobby servant by Ilario Pantano, his far better opponent in the Primary, who sadly lost.
TxAnn56 on January 27, 2013 at 11:53 AM
Okay, to get citizenship you must pay $10K and personally work on completion of 100 feet of the fence at our Southern border.
Cindy Munford on January 27, 2013 at 11:54 AM
FIFY.
Stoic Patriot on January 27, 2013 at 11:55 AM
It’s not just the votes.
The Dems also want the GOP fighting amongst themselves, sending out conflicting messages and viewpoints, so the Dems can run against against GOP house members in 2014. They maybe even hope for some primary challenges by conservatives against GOP members who vote for amnesty.
Also, all the GOP members will be presented as raaacists, regardless if they vote for amnesty, by quoting and using clips from amnesty opponents. Guilt by association.
And they also get with the GOP infighting the chance to say the GOP has no clear principles or policies; vote for us – we’ll give you free stuff paid for by rich people paying their “fair share.”
Wethal on January 27, 2013 at 11:57 AM

Hey Juan you get the donks to agree to let Bill Marx Ayers not set up an America hating weaponized race curriculum and teach free market dynamics *maybe* I’ll talk….otherwise you are asking me to blow my brains out as an American.
If you will reward their lawbreaking on taxes and wages with citizenship then perhaps those of us who believe in free markets should start emulating your little amigos and ignore the law.
You, YOU are precisely the face of what gave nancy Pelosi the gavel in 2006 and YOU and your weakness are why you were gifted with 2010.
I am out of gifts.
Article V break it up the federal govt is an engine of lawlessness and tyranny.

You can fax your resignation letter from the hut I have rented for you and your darling wife and daughter.

Don’t be fooled by talk of fee, fines, back taxes to be paid, etc. They will insert the word “hardship” into the whatever bill they write and very little of this money will ever be paid. It’s pure BS.

How about creating a path to sub-minimum wage work permits for illegals?
How about doing that for citizens, while you’re at it?

Aitch748 on January 27, 2013 at 12:40 PM
And hopefully the result will be the same as in 2007.
Um, yes it will, Mr. Obama voter. Amnesty legislation will be voted on before 2014, and if our side goes along with it, they will lose in 2014. They can’t even get the base to come out now. I can assure you, another slap in the face isn’t going to make it better.

Maybe McCain’s fellow Jihadi’s in North Africa and Syria will take him.
McCain reminds me of Hanoi Jane.
FloatingRock on January 27, 2013 at 12:49 PM
It’s laughable to think that the illegals who mow lawns with no education and no understanding of English, have been keeping records of all their wages from the day they broke the law, so that they’ll be able to pay back taxes. It’s all a travesty and nothing, absolutely nothing will happen except a new block of Democratic voters ensuring lasting one party rule.
TxAnn56 on January 27, 2013 at 12:51 PM
When the ruling class realized that they’re going to lose power to the tea party unless they find a way to dilute the vote of American citizens.
