“I think we should split the difference and say we have 23.5 percent dirt bags in America”
MAHER: And here, listen to this about disability. People who take disability, who are on disability, in 1968 it was 51 to1, people on disability to people who worked. In 2001, not that long ago, it was 23 to 1. Now it’s 13 to 1, 13 people to one who are on disability. Now, of course, you know, some of that is real. We are an overworked, overstressed, polluted, ripped off and lied to people. So, I mean, obviously there are some people who really do have disabilities. But 13 to 1?
You know, it just seems like there’s less people pulling the wagon and more people in the wagon, and at some point the wagon is going to break.

Disability payments are what you take when your unemployment compensation runs out.

Don’t be too quick to think that Maher’s found religion (heh). He’ll probably propose some government fix.

Gee, really? If this guy had an original thought it would die of loneliness.

I’m betting any “solution” he might come up with involves a brand new government agency and some additional lost liberty.

^^It’s the inevitable downward spiral of Progressivism. It’s an ideology that can never work over an extended period of time because it defies human nature. And human nature will never, ever change, no matter how many “ivy league” technocrats and planners the government employs to “solve” problems.

He’s still an idiot.

A flashing VCR is right once a week, and both are still right more often than Maher.

And an ugly one at that. I am not talking about his looks.

Maher on dirt bags… I first assumed it was an autobiography.

I understand the inclination to use disability as an avenue to get needed to survive (survive being a debatable description) when the government is intentionally trying to destroy the economy and there just isn’t any work to be had.
But this problem, as Maher notes, has been a very long time in growing. I do remember a long time ago when the press actually did their jobs with regard to this fraudulent use of ‘disability’ for glomming onto the entitlement gravy train. I don’t really know what the reason was for abdicating their responsibility here, but it is worth noting that disability is not the only entitlement fraud running rampant that they don’t bother to cover anymore.

Truth is, a lot of those extra people on disability nowadays are actually commodities traders – they make their money swapping their votes for benefits.

47% – 23.5% = ?
mjbrooks3 on January 27, 2013 at 3:54 PM
Is that 23.5% out of 99%?

Congratulations on finding an acorn you blind hog. Now after that accomplishment, why don’t you go join a monastery and spend the rest of your life doing penance for supporting thieves and murderers?
