This is just a back door effort by the international leaning libruls to get us into a carbon credit tax goat rope. Do you know how to get better roads? Shoot the next politician that porks the road money into bicycle paths, train tracks or stations, light rail, or any other abusee of the funds.

People have good reason to believe the gas tax is mostly wasted. It never should have been spent on anything BUT roads. Instead it goes to bicycle paths and other things not related to roads.

Localize when you can’t privatize.
I’d start with a few years of just giving collected taxes to the states directly, then figure out some way to give the states complete control over it.

Eliminating the federal role would enhance state autonomy and streamline decision making.

And reduce cost. There is one huge bureaucracy in Washington skimming revenues off the top just to pay for adding puppet strings.
