an influx of transplants from more liberal states seeking a better quality of life

This is exactly what happened in Australia to the state of Queensland. Once the country's most conservative and economically successful states, it attracted huge numbers of migrants from the other more liberal southern states. They'd come here while simultaneously complaining about what a backward place it was and what nasty people our politicians were, and they never saw the cognitive dissonance of hating a place they'd chosen to leave their socialist paradises for. Then, over time, they swamped the political system, voted in their own kind and today Queensland is a basket case.

Actually, that also sounds like the way Islam works in its long march into the west...

Correct. And we know what the next phase will be (because we're already in it): Clueless overreach by the progs based on the false premise that because their presidential candidate was more successful in the recent election that it represents a "mandate" to do whatever they want. The reality is that many young Democrat voters in 2008 will be more mature Republican voters in 2016, if they aren't already.

OK, how about this: a five-year residency requirement to vote for state offices. You aren't going to move to a new state and give up your franchise for that long unless you're already pretty happy with how your new state is run, and the sort of incomer who's willing to wait five years is just the sort of person conservative states ought to welcome.

And who knows? In five years, even a Liberal may learn something!
