There are different types of fraternities; social, service, and professional. The social fras were just a collection of obnoxious jerks who all saw Animal House and decided that they were it. They have very few redeming qualities as a campus organization. The service and professional frats have much more conservative potential. They have a higher dedication to responsibility and posiive values.

Pretty much all of them on my campus are conservatives, but then again pretty much everyone, either in a frat/sorority or not, is a conservative.

And yes, frat rats are obnoxious. Again, they’re not conservative socially in any way (Many are pro choice because it allows them to have sex frequently without consequences), pro pot, although I suppose some are quite homophobic. Most of them are conservatives because they’re parents are very wealthy.

Fat brothers may tend to be conservative because they know if they pool their money they can get better deals on bulk orders of cheeze curls.

at my college the frat boys were most likely to get blind drunk at the kegger, bbq in a barrel on their porch burning the frat house down while they slept…

… which does not exactly sound ‘ conservative’ but aspects of this event (which really happened) are indeed ‘traditional’ and ‘historically’ part of fraternity life.

( but in the spirit of truthfulness, free ranging fraternity members in howling packs did call us ‘f*gs’, ‘fing queers’ and other more graphic terms when we peacefully protested military recruitment in the student union- that was when they were just calling us all those same names because we were art and music majors …)
