“Is there anything I can do for marriage equality … to harness this Super Bowl media?”
“It’s one of those times when you’re really passionate and in your zone,” Ayanbadejo told Bruni. “And I got to thinking about all kinds of things, and I thought: how can we get our message out there?”
According to Bruni, Ayanbadejo’s support for gay rights comes from childhood connections to a diverse group that included many that were openly gay or lesbian. He once lived in an LGBT dorm at the University of California, Santa Cruz, where his stepfather was the resident director.
“I was raised around gay people in a very liberal society,” Ayanbadejo told Bruni during an interview in September. “Discrimination was never allowed.”

One of the reasons why I am a 49ers fan…at least for this Super Bowl.

Do you mean marriage equality, or do you ONLY care about gay marriage?
Or are you enough of a stupid bigot to think that they are the same thing?
blink on January 25, 2013 at 3:47 PM
This guy has mental problems and it has little to do with his position of redefining marriage.

Yes, you can wear rainbow gloves and socks and that stupid “=” sticker on your helmet. Sure, you’ll get fined, but it’s for The Cause and The Children!
Christien on January 25, 2013 at 3:50 PM
I’m sure this should be OK — just like how all those pro life ads have run unchallenged ….
apostic on January 25, 2013 at 3:51 PM
Joe: Ayanbadejo recovers the fumble and goes in for the score!
Troy: Well this was a missed blocking assignment on the part of the 49er’s offensive line. And there’s Ayanbadejo celebrating in the endzone. What?…what is he doing with the football?! Oh God!
Joe: We’ll be back right after this.

There already is marriage equality. The man and woman are both equals in a marriage.
reddevil on January 25, 2013 at 3:58 PM
Flacco better watch his back, lest this guy do a Mendenhall and try to mount him.
Christien on January 25, 2013 at 3:58 PM
What gave it away? That he treats dancing on DeGenerate’s show as 40 times the achievement of a Superbowl ring?
Kataklysmic on January 25, 2013 at 3:59 PM
How about tell the Christian-hating perverts to ram a football up their you-know-where sideways?
MelonCollie on January 25, 2013 at 3:59 PM
Is this really the time or place?
Cindy Munford on January 25, 2013 at 4:01 PM
This is precisely why perverts used to be told “keep it in their bedrooms”: because otherwise they’ll parade down Main Street and run ads on public television just for starters. And lookit what’s happened.
MelonCollie on January 25, 2013 at 4:03 PM
It apparently was when Tebow was doing an anti-abortion ad. It figures that the same people who thought that was just super are suddenly going to discover that they don’t think football and politics mix well anymore.

No one is stopping this clown from putting up his own money, producing a commercial, and buying airtime.

The protection of human life does not equal the promotion of abnormal relationships.
Rose on January 25, 2013 at 4:19 PM
Much less ones made by abnormal people with abnormal desires who practice abnormal activities that God specifically says he hates.
It would take a liberal or an idiot (but I repeat myself) to equate those two things.
MelonCollie on January 25, 2013 at 4:26 PM
That was a Superbowl commercial. Ayanbadejo is playing in the Superbowl and rather than focus on the game, he is using it to push his personal agenda. He isn’t being a very good teammate IMHO.
RedRobin145 on January 25, 2013 at 4:26 PM
Emphasis mine.
Really? Define abnormal — I’m sure I could find a thing or two about your relationship that I find “abnormal” – but that doesn’t mean we should proactively legislate what a “normal” relationship should be based on your bias.
youknowit on January 25, 2013 at 4:28 PM
True enough. As a proponent of Free Speech, have at it. Let the chips fall where they may. I have a suggestion, Tebow’s ad was powerful because of the person he turned out to be after not being aborted. I think this guy should find some gay football players who are suffering from being kept from their true loves by these archaic laws and discrimination.
Cindy Munford on January 25, 2013 at 4:28 PM
LOL, the constant refrain to Republicans is to stay out of their bedrooms and private lives. I wish they would return the favor, I’m not interested no matter which team they play for (so to speak).
Cindy Munford on January 25, 2013 at 4:30 PM
One of the few times I’m glad I’m a Jaguars fan. I’ll probably go to the range or something.
Though lately we know how Cubbies fans feel…Maybe next year.
ProfShadow on January 25, 2013 at 4:35 PM
Don’t you think you should wait until after the game has been won or lost before making that judgment? He must be doing something right if he’s on a team that made it to the Super Bowl. If he runs off the field during a play and starts handing out leaflets to people on the sidelines, yeah, that would be a problem. If he gives a pre-game interview or something where he mentions his support for gay marriage or wears a sticker on his helmet, who cares?
Armin Tamzarian on January 25, 2013 at 4:38 PM
Marriage is a public institution, no one gives a damn what homosexuals do in their bedrooms.
Rebar on January 25, 2013 at 4:40 PM
Not to hear them tell it.

youknowit on January 25, 2013 at 4:28 PM
Abnormal according to biology. These people are trying to legislate a new definition. We are trying to hold on to the already established definition.
Rose on January 25, 2013 at 4:47 PM
Republicans suck at message-delivery, big surprise.
MelonCollie on January 25, 2013 at 5:20 PM
The 49ers are working on their game plan while the Ravens are worried about the gender confused, haha, Sweet! Go Niners!!
Dollayo on January 25, 2013 at 5:32 PM
I’ll say.
