Bad news from Al Gore: Television is hurting democracy
“I think that the influence of television over the last half century has been harmful to the operations of our democracy,” said Gore. “In the age of our founding, and for much of the history of the republic, crucial. Individuals could gain easy access to information and could express their own views. They can’t do that on television.”
“They get plenty of information from it, but they can’t participate in a dialogue or engage in collaborative decision-making,” he went on. “But the Internet is now growing in importance and pervasiveness, to the point where soon it may offer an alternative to the TV media environment that reinvigorates democracy. I’m hoping that’s the case.”

So now we know why he divested Current TV. He wanted to hurt Al Jazeera. Thanks for defending democracy from Manbearpig, Al.

Before you insult Sheikh Ape-Pig, pay homage to the fact that it invented the Interwebs.

I’m sure he is talking about the leftist media propaganda machine?

He’s right about people not being able to use television because government controls the spectrum tv is broadcast on and leases it to who they prefer, all nice and controlled and regulated, just like some people want to do with the internet via “net neutrality” which Al Gore just happens to be a huge supporter of.

Nah… he’s just butt-hurt that next to nobody watched Current TV.
However, the (oil) money from the sale of Current made him feel all better.

Someone tell Gore about YouTube. TV by individuals on the internet. He probably owns millions of dollars of stock in it. As Al Jolson found out, talkies are the way to go. Moving pictures, with sound. Now people can make their own. They can watch TV too. Lots of choices. Likely TV and the internet will merge in the next 10 years. Don’t sweat it, Al.
I think he’s just pissed that his CurrentTV flopped.

Sure thing. All those farmers and homesteaders walked the miles into town or village every day to gain information and express their views. Many also took the months long sail back to England to see what was going on.
