Is Bloomberg’s soda ban racist?
The issue is complex for the minority advocates, especially given that obesity rates are higher than average among blacks and Hispanics, according to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The groups say in court papers they’re concerned about the discrepancy, but the soda rule will unduly harm minority businesses and “freedom of choice in low-income communities.”…
The NAACP and the Hispanic Federation, a network of 100 northeastern groups, say minority-owned delis and corner stores will end up at a disadvantage compared to grocery chains.
“This sweeping regulation will no doubt burden and disproportionally impact minority-owned businesses at a time when these businesses can least afford it,” they said in court papers. They say the city should focus instead on increasing physical education in schools.

Liberals in general are racist so it’s no surprise their policies end up being racist too.

It’s pioneering, so it’s OK. Just like Margaret Sanger was a pioneer, that’s why democrats love eugenics.

Is he a member of the Tea Party?
Then he can’t be racist.

Oh shut up. You love your overlords, otherwise you wouldn’t keep voting Progressive. When you vote for people who want to enslave Americans (for their own good of course), then don’t be surprised when your caught in their net. If you vote for a political class that promises to “take care of you” and if you want to decrease personal liberty and responsibility in favor of a powerful government, then don’t be surprised when they treat you like children. If you want a nanny state, then you’ll shut up, eat your peas, and go to bed when your masters tell you to. Government’s your master, and you’ll get in line.

Only if it were an orange soda ban.
steebo77 on January 23, 2013 at 3:57 PM
And they all voted for the nanny stater in chief last November. May all of their businesses shutter as a result of their own idiotic racial politics. And, if they sat afloat, may Obamcare do them in.

Yes. But, if we can reduce the weight of one little, non-white, fat kid, we must take that step.

Lets talk about race:
Yeah, “I’m black therefore I’m innocent – regardless of evidence”.

Weight of Glory, nailed it.

Then by all means, let’s wait to regulate until these businesses are more able to afford it!

It’s “pioneering” to ban something they don’t like? No, what would be pioneering is for these elitist know-it-alls to show some restraint, and quit trying to dictate everything with a never ending mountain of laws. And yes, it is racist. Bloomberg et al should be thrown in the drink.
anotherJoe on January 23, 2013 at 4:36 PM
The media tells these people we are racist and want to kill them so vote democrat because your life depends on it.
They vote that way because that is all they see and hear 24/7.
The media is the root of our problems.
GardenGnome on January 23, 2013 at 4:42 PM
It’s not a bad law because it disproportionately harms minority-owned businesses; it’s a bad law because it harms businesses. Race really shouldn’t be brought into this.
theperfecteconomist on January 23, 2013 at 4:43 PM
Banning 32oz soda’s does not matter to Bloomberg as his hands are too small to pick one up anyway.
So it would also seem plausible that Bloomberg was placing punitive measures on people that are not midgets.
