In four years we’ll be inaugurating President Rubio
Chris Christie can bully and berate, but can he make the hair on the back of your neck stand up? Paul Ryan knows budgets inside and out, but can he inspire? Bobby Jindal has the best resume around, but can he make you want to run through a wall for him?
The verdict is still out on that. Maybe one of them, or somebody else, will rise to the occasion.
But words do matter. In this regard, President Obama was correct when, during the 2008 primaries, he said — borrowing from Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick — “Don’t tell me words don’t matter … I have a dream’ — just words. ‘We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal’ — just words. ‘We have nothing to fear but fear itself’ — just words.”
It’s undeniable that words are important. Words can summon men to do great things or even inspire a nation.
Don’t tell me words don’t matter. Marco Rubio has the words. He has the charisma. He has the policy chops. And he has the personal story.

I think Sen. Rubio has a bit more of a problem in the “birther” department since neither of his parents where citizens at the time of his birth. That may not seem compelling but it is an argument that will be hashed out ad nauseam and will not be dismissed by the media.
Cindy Munford on January 22, 2013 at 8:28 PM
Let the Left try that crap. They will get their hineys handed to them.
terryannonline on January 22, 2013 at 8:29 PM
Yeah, that Paul Babeu looks pretty good to me, too. :monocle:
Jeddite on January 22, 2013 at 8:30 PM
You do have a point – they’ll unabashedly get behind anything that might stop a Republican from winning, even if they dismissed it out of hand for a Democrat.
JeffWeimer on January 22, 2013 at 8:30 PM
I believe Mr. Rubio is from the South and the Republicans would do well to stop discounting the South as their welfare queens, I think it has backfired on them twice now.
Cindy Munford on January 22, 2013 at 8:30 PM
Not a big fan of Rubio. Am warming to the Blue Buddha however.

Don’t want this to get lost in the gulag of the last post on the first page:
Sorry, those Knuckleheads wanted Charlie Crist – Tea Party got behind Rubio FTW. Wanna try again?

JeffWeimer on January 22, 2013 at 8:31 PM
Yeah but he has NEVER said he has issues with the Civil Rights Act.
terryannonline on January 22, 2013 at 8:31 PM
Yep, we have all watched the unending stream of double standards too long to be fooled into believing that they would even care if anyone noticed their hypocrisy.
Cindy Munford on January 22, 2013 at 8:32 PM
1460 days……Never to early…
tjexcite on January 22, 2013 at 8:33 PM
I like him, but I see he’s soft on immigration, and that can only mean he plays racial politics, and that worries me. I’m tired of hyphenated Americans, and worse, illegal immigrants. So as not to be misunderstood, I’m all for Americans and legal immigrants.
Paul-Cincy on January 22, 2013 at 8:33 PM
Darlin, all you have to do is read this thread. He is not without his own less than conservative statements. I might differ with some of our friends here on what the word amnesty means but he’s walking a tight rope.
Cindy Munford on January 22, 2013 at 8:33 PM
I’m not seeking ideological purity. Allahpundit is my favorite conservative blogger and he’s for gay marriage and an atheist. Oh well.
terryannonline on January 22, 2013 at 8:36 PM
You can call me a nut if you want but I guarantee you that ABC, NBC and CBS will be among the nuts to whip this discussion to frenzy levels. The better his polls, the worse it will get.
Cindy Munford on January 22, 2013 at 8:36 PM
I agree, I am not looking for purity either, but it would be foolish to ignore the pitfalls of any of the candidates, including your concerns about Rand Paul. In the end, who wins will probably be more impacted by what Obama has done to the nation at large than the candidates themselves. Don’t forget, we just reelect Jimmy Carter, for crap’s sake.
Cindy Munford on January 22, 2013 at 8:38 PM
Because if there’s one thing the GOP learned this cycle – most especially the professional commentators sure of their own importance – it’s designating a victor four years in advance and rallying behind him, delegitimizing all alternatives and refusing to recognize any unsuitability or flaw.
The only thing holding the GOP back is it’s yokel base’s inability to see the Cunning Plan that’s So Obvious for people who are Smart. Oh, and the general electorate’s inability, too.
HitNRun on January 22, 2013 at 8:39 PM
By 2016 I’d vote for Ruby Begonia.
teacherman on January 22, 2013 at 8:40 PM
Not gonna happen. Tired of the ¨by any means¨ crap. Change the constitutionto remove natural born then he might have a chance, otherwise forget it. That’s on the one hand, the other is his retreaded leftist amnesty crap. He’ll get no vote from just like Mittness.
AH_C on January 22, 2013 at 8:41 PM
Ummm… People think that Rubio is smart and that he has a policy vision. I am confused by this. The guy is Latino and he is a gorgeous speaker. I’ll agree with that. He is an American Idol candidate, but let’s not go there with Rubio’s awesome policy vision. He’ll be nominated because he is a young Latino guy who gives gorgeous speaks. Obama 2.0.
I will admit that this charter member of Team Ryan would love to hear Marco Rubio’s 2017 inaugural by Matt Scully. My father worked behind the room so I could speak to you on the steps of the Capitol.. shivers.
Illinidiva on January 22, 2013 at 8:41 PM
And? Just another memorable moment from a historic day.
He hasn’t announced anything yet, there are better candidates we know of and probably ones we don’t know yet.
lester on January 22, 2013 at 8:42 PM
I don’t know – I think Rand Paul may have something to say about that.
gophergirl on January 22, 2013 at 8:43 PM
It’s way too early to anoint anyone, especially Rubio…
idesign on January 22, 2013 at 8:43 PM
If they do that it will only backfire on them.
Not saying Rubio isn’t without flaws but I like what he brings to the table.
terryannonline on January 22, 2013 at 8:44 PM
Another progressive, just dandy.
astonerii on January 22, 2013 at 8:46 PM
Wasn’t that the big selling point for Romney – he could communicate?
I think we should try voting this time on policy and substance instead of who is the shiniest package or who is the supposed next in line.
If Rubio proves to be that guy then great. I just know there are a few others I would like to give a test drive to as well.
gophergirl on January 22, 2013 at 8:47 PM
Let’s hope so, there was enough dumbasses to reelect Obama.
Cindy Munford on January 22, 2013 at 8:48 PM
I don’t think I was able to sit through a single Romney speech. Zzzzzzzzz
terryannonline on January 22, 2013 at 8:49 PM
Too short.
Bmore on January 22, 2013 at 8:49 PM
When has the media ever worried about anything backfiring on them? We just reelected a president that is worse than Jimmy Carter. Obama has told them he not going to answer any questions about Benghazi anymore (as if he has in the past) and they are fine with it.
Cindy Munford on January 22, 2013 at 8:50 PM
Okay that just made me laugh out loud.
gophergirl on January 22, 2013 at 8:51 PM
Glad to be of service gg. Looks very very cold up there. Brrrrr…….
Bmore on January 22, 2013 at 8:52 PM
Freezing and it’s going to be this way the whole week.
Blech!
gophergirl on January 22, 2013 at 8:53 PM
OMG I MUST BE THE SQUISHIEST RINO EVER ’cause I really like Rubio.
John the Libertarian on January 22, 2013 at 8:53 PM
But never too early for the self-anointed Tru Cons to administer Teh Purity Tests!
John the Libertarian on January 22, 2013 at 8:55 PM
I think people just want to make sure he’s for real. I know there is something there I don’t 100% trust yet. Can’t put my finger on it though.
What do I know – I still hold a faint hope for Perry. I’m hopeless LOL!
gophergirl on January 22, 2013 at 8:55 PM
I don’t know how you stand it. Down here in Ga. its struggling to stay above 20. I do not like cold one bit. Give me the 80′s anytime. ; ) gg, do you have to burn oil up there?
Bmore on January 22, 2013 at 8:55 PM
I would love to have the time to read through all these comments. But with a household of 5 kids and life to live I just want to say, ‘Hell,Yes to Rubio!”
Stop micro analyzing every single thing. There is NO perfect person!!! I am not damning the constitution but he is as American as any of us here. I am not going down with a ship that wants to focus on whether the tableware is set properly or not. I am TIRED!! Aren’t you? I am sick and tired of being bullied by the left and retreating because you don’t have the balls to stand up to them on principle. I say we nominate him now, get behind him and PUSH!!! with all that we have. It would freak them out!!!!
1nolibgal on January 22, 2013 at 8:55 PM
Ha!!!
Bmore on January 22, 2013 at 8:55 PM
No I’m in a downtown concrete apartment building. Lobbies of buildings and elevator lobbies are freezing though.
I’m one who likes it a little colder and then cover up with blankets and extra slippers.
gophergirl on January 22, 2013 at 8:56 PM
Brrr……
Bmore on January 22, 2013 at 8:57 PM
What’s left in 4 years? I can’t think that far out under present conditions. 2014 will matter more.
We either win the senate and hold the house, or we are finished for good and it won’t matter.
wolly4321 on January 22, 2013 at 8:57 PM
The GOP had 4 million stay home with McCain.
They had 6 million stay home with Romney.
Can they break the previous record and make it to 8 million?
Lets find out, and not with the easy pick, Jeb Bush (12 million easy), no lets try with Mr Amnesty.
sharrukin on January 22, 2013 at 8:58 PM
Forget winning, lets hear some secession plans (and nuke seizure to go along with it, bargaining power and all).
nobar on January 22, 2013 at 9:00 PM
Still don’t fully understand what the heII a TrueCon is.
Bmore on January 22, 2013 at 9:04 PM
I will say this, if being a good orator is the winning trait, Rudio is miles above Obama in that talent. And he can actually speak extemporaneously unlike The Won who depends on babbling filibusters to wear down rather than inform.
Cindy Munford on January 22, 2013 at 9:05 PM
Someone who actually believes in that icky conservative stuff…I mean, really believes it.
sharrukin on January 22, 2013 at 9:05 PM
Luv to John!!
1nolibgal on January 22, 2013 at 9:07 PM
Someone who thinks you care too much about a particular issue. Any issue. Making you a TruCon. I find myself unable to get to worked up about that particular “insult”.
Cindy Munford on January 22, 2013 at 9:08 PM
AMEN!!!!! This is just ginning up Next In Line, Inevitability, Hyper-Electability crap once again. Regular as clockwork.
