Feminists pretty disappointed in Michelle Obama
Last year, after Obama and Ann Romney submitted recipes for a cookie contest, Hirshman told The Washington Post that Obama’s “first mom, gardener thing” is “silly.” Now, Hirshman says, “I’ve kind of lost interest in Michelle Obama. She was trapped by assumptions about race and had limited room to maneuver. Whether that was a welcome choice or she had no choice, I will never know. It’s very difficult to envision her as running for senator from the state of Illinois as you did with Hillary Clinton running for senator from the state of New York.”
“Are fashion and body-toning tips all we can expect from one of the most highly educated First Ladies in history?” asked author Leslie Morgan Steiner in an online column last January. She said she’d “read enough bland dogma on home-grown vegetables and aerobic exercise to last me several lifetimes.”
Steiner contended Obama probably had little leeway. “I’m sure there is immense pressure — from political advisors, the black community, her husband, the watching world — to play her role as First Black Lady on the safe side.”
Feminist discontent with the first lady spiked again last summer at the Democratic National Convention, after she called her daughters “the heart of my heart and the center of my world.” She then repeated her feminist crazy-maker: “You see, at the end of the day, my most important title is still ‘mom-in-chief.’ ”
“Why does mom-in-chief have to be the most important thing this strong, vibrant woman tells us about herself as she flexes the strange but considerable power of the office of first lady?” Emily Bazelon asked on Slate.com.
“Judging by Michelle Obama’s speech, feminism is dead to the Democratic party, ” wrote Lilith Dornhuber on Feministing.com.

Her husband is a crazed feminist enough to make up for her lack. I mean what do they want. HE’S the one in power. Cry me a river.

Much ado about nothing.

LOL another so called liberal called “one of the most highly educated First Ladies in history?”
So prove it. Just like Barry, prove it or I call it a fantasy.
watertown on January 20, 2013 at 11:03 AM
I’m happy to ignore First Ladies and first children and candidate’s wives for ever more.

Oh, boo hoo – “feminists” losing interest in the most “feminist” FLOTUS in history. Big Mo is extremely masculine, unattractive, abrasive, abusive, a blood-thirsty abortionist and she hates America – seriously, what more could any “feminist” want?
Pork-Chop on January 20, 2013 at 11:07 AM
Yeh the FLOTUS isn’t much. Glad you agree.

She’s a mean, nasty woman that no one in their right mind could like. But she keeps people from asking about Larry Sinclair and Barry’s bathhouse days.
Flange on January 20, 2013 at 11:14 AM
Well, this is because Michelle Obama isn’t a serious person. She doesn’t like working or want to work and she likes spending money on things.
Illinidiva on January 20, 2013 at 11:15 AM
Well mo sure seems to have going on vacations and spending millions of taxpayers dollars down pat!

Put a camera in the Barky bedroom, the feminists will get all they could want of a “strong” woman beating the snot out of momjeans-wearing beta male.

As with her husband, I’m pretty sure we’ll see a different Michele Obama in the second term. I think the Mom in Chief thing, baking cookies, etc., was only done to get them through the first term. I think we’ll see more of the “real” Michele Obama soon now that her husband doesn’t have to work on re-election. After all, we’ve been hearing rumors that she may run for Senate in Illinois, after Barack leaves DC, so, if that’s the case, she will need to get ready for that.
I think she mentioned someplace recently that she was going to try to tackle grocery stores in her second term (with her health initiative), so I can see her taking a more visible role in that and maybe openly pushing legislation.

Not so much “educated” as “credentialed.” Michelle Obama, by her own admission, wasn’t qualified (by grades and test scores) for Princeton University, and judging by the senior thesis she wrote at Princeton, she wasn’t particularly well qualified for Harvard Law either. The timing of her Illinois bar admission suggests she flunked at least one Illinois bar exam. She has held only one job as a lawyer, and that is the associate position she had at Sidley & Austin, right out of law school. She only lasted a few years there. Every job she had after that was a make-work, non-lawyer, political patronage job secured for her by Chicago slumlord/political fixer Valerie Jarrett.
The puppet-masters around the Obamas (e.g., Jarrett, Axelrod, etc.) know that the myth of Michelle Obama as brilliant super-lawyer superwoman is a fabrication. The public has accepted the myth, for the most part, because Michelle Obama has kept a relatively low profile on most political issues. But if she pushes herself out front, a lot more questions about her background and qualifications will be raised — and that’s the last thing that she or her myth-makers want.

You pimped yourselves out for the man. Accept the gender roles you chose.
thebrokenrattle on January 20, 2013 at 11:31 AM
There won’t be any questions. The media has her covered just like her equally “credentialed” husband.
behiker on January 20, 2013 at 11:32 AM
So she even gets her own special title? What is a “First Black Lady”? She is the first black First Lady.
And if she was playing it on the safe side, I’d hate to see what her vacation expenses would have been if she weren’t holding back.
behiker on January 20, 2013 at 11:40 AM
*snort*
Seriously, someone wrote that?
Dr. King and I disapprove of such notions of disparity based in hypocrisy and service to an idea that does not embrace the fullness of humanity and the potential of each and every person on this God-created earth.
(Excuse me, I am warming up for my NAACP speech tomorrow)

Poor angry shrews. They’ll never be happy.
John the Libertarian on January 20, 2013 at 12:11 PM
She pussywhipped this guy into marrying her. That is her claim to fame.
Blake on January 20, 2013 at 12:12 PM
Her new hairdo reminds me of the Rick James wig worn by Don Cheadle in Boogie Nights.
Naturally Curly on January 20, 2013 at 12:13 PM
Only Don Cheadle had the sense to take it off after five minutes.
Naturally Curly on January 20, 2013 at 12:14 PM
Feminists may be disappointed, but transvestites are very impressed.
Stu Gotts on January 20, 2013 at 12:17 PM
Who exactly put limits on her role? She COULD have been a champion for school choice and vouchers that undeniably help Black kids get a better education but NO. The fact is, this woman hates Whites (see her Princeton writings), hates Blacks (see her stellar work in the Chicago Hospital system), and hates herself (nice wig collection, Mo). Michelle Obama is, and has always been, a resentful, self entitled, scold of a woman. When she and her pathetic beta husband finally leave it will feel as though the country has passed a gallstone the size of a golf ball.
teacherman on January 20, 2013 at 12:18 PM
Their expense tab as former pResident and “First Black Lady” will be a parade of such gallstones.
Stu Gotts on January 20, 2013 at 12:22 PM
Didn’t some important civil rights leader dream of a society where people were judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin. Funny when conservatives talk about the content of the character of the Obamas they get called “racist” but skin color gets touted by the left as the qualifying attribute for just about everything.
hopeful on January 20, 2013 at 12:27 PM
If she goes on national TV and shouts “I’M RICK JAMES, B*TCH!”…all is forgiven.
CorporatePiggy on January 20, 2013 at 12:27 PM
Well said, and absolutely true.

I wanted to get a rifle for protection but my girlfriend doesn’t like guns. She wanted to get a pitbull but I don’t like dogs. We compromised and bought a feminist.

Isn’t the expression “dissatisfied feminist” redundant?
