Bill Clinton to Democrats: Don’t trivialize gun culture
“Do not patronize the passionate supporters of your opponents by looking down your nose at them,” Clinton said.
“A lot of these people live in a world very different from the world lived in by the people proposing these things,” Clinton said. “I know because I come from this world…
While some polls show that the public by-and-large supports several proposals for increased gun control, Clinton said that it’s not the public support that matters — it’s how strongly people feel about the issue.
“All these polls that you see saying the public is for us on all these issues — they are meaningless if they’re not voting issues,” Clinton said.

Wow. I shouldn’t have wandered into the comments there.

Good advice on most political topics.

He’s just saying don’t take us on from the front, come at us from the side to destroy us.
vityas on January 20, 2013 at 8:58 AM
I know. I made the same mistake.
They’re sure proud of their ignorance and irrationality.

Standard comments from liberals who think they’re smart and know everything but in reality display the stupidity and ignorance typical of a useful idiot.

Some highlights for the rest of you:
“Surely we can accommodate hunting & fishing without indulging the most extremist gun collectors”
“Your Second Amendment right is safe. You can have your guns. But there are some guns that don’t belong in a civil society.”

wow bubba said something substantial…

“A lot of these people … all they’ve got is their hunting and their fishing,” he told the Democratic financiers. “Or they’re living in a place where they don’t have much police presence. Or they’ve been listening to this stuff for so long that they believe it all.”
At least he didn’t say we’re bitter.

He knows it’s a voting issue. He’s whispering to libs that if they get gun control now, then the election consequences are bad for Hillary. He’d prefer to run on moderating rather than radicalizing, and status quo won’t have much support in either primary.
Buddahpundit on January 20, 2013 at 9:25 AM
Actually, BJ, the reason we believe it is because we’ve been watching and listening to people like you and your fellow statists.

Your about 4 years a little late with that advice…

Fixed.

So much for not looking down your nose at those people.

This thinking always gets me. I live in LA. What the F would I hunt or fish? And what fire arm is appropriate for fishing?
The words Urban Defense never come up. Practical weapons in an this environment are handguns, street sweepers (if you can find one) and semi-auto rifles. Not a single weapon practical for hunting quail.
They think that all urban villagers are all fellow travelers. I’m pretty moderate, but gun control is off the table.

Hey, Bill, don’t trivialize the Second Amendment.

This is the same guy that said half of all mass shootings have occurred since 2004. Remember folks, he makes stuff up on the fly.

old Bill’s statement is a reminder of how the Democrat party used to be… liberal to be sure, but not quite insanely so. Clinton can say these things and appeal to wide audiences because his background backs it up. He actually is from a so-called flyover state and grew up more or less as a ‘good old boy’ made good. So he intuitively ‘gets’ middle American conservatism even if he is a rapid leftist. It is one of the reasons he remains so popular.

The comments there are nearly as disturbing as in the NYT peace by the woman saying “I’m depressed – take my guns”.
CorporatePiggy on January 20, 2013 at 11:08 AM
Sample comment “Show the Sandy Hook photos now. Maybe that will change some of the NRA types minds”.
It’s the lib playbook. If you have to desecrate the memories of a child and piss on their grave to make your point, it is worth it…for the cause. Che did all kinds of interesting stuff ‘for the cause’ too.
CorporatePiggy on January 20, 2013 at 11:11 AM
THIS! This is what it’s all about.
Vince on January 20, 2013 at 11:38 AM
LOL. No kidding. According to Billy-boy, we rubes who support Second Amendment rights only do so because we’re poor, or because we’re too stupid to know better. (Reminds me of when John F’ing Kerry warned students to study hard so they wouldn’t have to end up in the military).
Makes one wonder what these oh-so-wise “elites” would say if they were actually trying to be insulting to us common folks.
