Please take away my right to a gun
I am one of the millions of people in this country who live with depression. I knew that in the gun registration form there would be a version of this question: Have you ever voluntarily or involuntarily been committed to a hospital? The answer is yes — voluntarily. But because my hospitalization was years earlier and I wasn’t in treatment at the time, I could have gotten a gun.
My depression appeared for the first time in the late ’90s, right before I began writing for politicians. It comes and goes like fog. Medicine can help. I have my tricks to manage and get through it. Sometimes it sticks around for a day or a week, and sometimes it stays away for a couple of years. But it never leads me to sleep all day, cry and wear sweat pants like the people in the commercials. You’d look at me and never know that sometimes my fight against the urge to die is so tough the only way I get through it is second by second; I live by the second hand.

Well, liberalism is a mental disorder.

Nobody cares. Stop bothering us normal people with your self-obsessed whining, you pathetic loser.
ThePrimordialOrderedPair on January 20, 2013 at 1:54 AM
I’m sure she views herself as part the Nomenclatura. She’s in character, and in the process describing how the enlightened oppressor class view the infantilized peasants/tax slaves.
Kungfoochimp on January 20, 2013 at 1:56 AM
Wasn’t she lucky the police station was right around the corner?
So, in her pointy little head, every person lives right around the corner from a police station, and they will come before the guy breaks through the door.
Heh.

I would like to thank Wendy for owning up to a personal problem and applaud her for understanding that she would not be a safe gun owner and taking personal responsibility over her life.
Oh wait she did not do the she wants the government to help her fix her problem at the expense of my rights.
F15Mech on January 20, 2013 at 2:15 AM
She’s not a safe car owner. I wouldn’t want to be anyone around her when she’s behind the wheel commanding 2500 pounds of flying metal. I don’t think she’s even safe with forks or drain cleaner.
ThePrimordialOrderedPair on January 20, 2013 at 2:20 AM
At least, with a gun, she’s more likely to kill herself. Big loss …
ThePrimordialOrderedPair on January 20, 2013 at 2:26 AM
This may be the first of many such BS articles in the coming months.
OldEnglish on January 20, 2013 at 2:39 AM
I don’t know about her right to a gun, but it seems clear she isn’t fit to have kids.
blue13326 on January 20, 2013 at 2:40 AM
I’d be depressed too if I were that stupid.
Sharke on January 20, 2013 at 2:53 AM
She better hope she never gets assigned to this bureau.

What a horrifying, ineffably sad story. I wish this woman well.
Ladysmith CulchaVulcha on January 20, 2013 at 3:49 AM
Wendy: If you believe your life is yours to do with as you please, consider this…keep a cocked and locked 45 near you at all times. When the depression hits, you may be able to survive it by knowing that you don’t have to live with it.
trl on January 20, 2013 at 3:55 AM
Yes, please do. Take this woman’s gun rights away. Take ‘em away real good. And all the commenters over there too before comments were closed. Take ALL their rights away. Their sorry asses don’t deserve any. They need to be taken care of. They’re asking to be taken care of. It’s been a long time since I’ve been so irritated reading such protracted straight up b.s..
bour3 on January 20, 2013 at 4:10 AM
I didn’t read all the comments but this imbecile is operating from the premise that government grants her the right to gun ownership, therefore they can also rescind that right.
That is not the case. The right to firearm ownership comes from natural law. The protection of that right is enshrined in the bill of rights. The bill of rights enumerates what government can not do.
Why is the left so ignorant?
tom daschle concerned on January 20, 2013 at 6:30 AM
She’s a liberal because she’s depressed and she’s depressed because she’s a liberal. I bet she has an eating disorder too.
Quick she needs to be saved by the nanny State!

I was afraid she was going to go all Columbine and end her fictious rant by saying she wanted to commit homocide. Suicide in her pathetic case? I’m good with that.
DanaSmiles on January 20, 2013 at 7:04 AM
“I don’t trust myself, so please strip everyone of their right to defend themselves”. Get a grip you self centered liberal sheep.

kregg on January 20, 2013 at 6:41 AM
I DO have an eating disorder. I’ve had it for(counts out loud) almost 27 years. I am NOT a victim. I AM pro-second amendment.I’m also working toward getting my CHL.
annoyinglittletwerp on January 20, 2013 at 7:52 AM
Can’t imagine why she should have a right to a gun, or alcohol, or a car, or the ability to purchase drugs, or rope, or even the ability to take vacations within five miles of mountains or cliffs.
For a mental basket case, she certainly has a rather self-indulgent attitude.
morganfrost on January 20, 2013 at 7:53 AM
They are neither ignorant nor stupid. They understand, disagree and are in the process of fundamentally changing things.
This little puff piece should not be see out of context with the argument that surrounds it.
It doesn’t matter if this woman is a) an actual woman and not a fabrication, b) suffers from a mental illness or not, or c) owns a gun or not.
This is the New York Times, the official Pravda of the Democratic Party, not to be confused with an actual enterprise engaged in the conduct of journalism.
This is propaganda in the advancement of the confiscation of firearms from the citizens of the United States and the obliteration of the Second Amendment.
This is a salvo in their war against us.
BTW: The other day I was sitting at a bar and noticed a bottle of vodka, a prominent silver bottle with the image of the hammer and sickle on it.
I mentioned to the man that was with me that if he were to say to me twenty years ago that today the Russians would be selling us vodka with the image of the hammer and sickle on the bottle, and we would be the country with communist leaders, I would have said he was nuts.
turfmann on January 20, 2013 at 8:03 AM
This could be about the dumbest thing I have ever had the misfortune to read. Using her logic, she needs to have her anti-depressant meds taken away from her also. She is more likely to die from an OD than from shooting herself. Women do not shoot themselves, too messy, they will swallow a whole bottle of prescription medications though. I say this as a Paramedic not a random opinion. It’s quite common to run OD’s for depressed individuals and individuals prescribed opiate pain killers, very very rare for a gunshot suicide these days.
gator70 on January 20, 2013 at 8:05 AM
She’s too emotionally unstable to make life or death decisions for herself. Please, someone take away her right to a have an abortion.
RedRedRice on January 20, 2013 at 8:18 AM
She could always jump out a window. Hopefully before she has a chance to write another stupid article like this one.
Naturally Curly on January 20, 2013 at 8:20 AM
I’d rather Wendy off herself than give up my right to bear arms. But if it makes the crying little b***h feel better, they can take away my right to abortion.
Flange on January 20, 2013 at 8:33 AM
Article is from NYT. Shocker. Take a peek at their comments, if you have the stomach
bernzright777 on January 20, 2013 at 8:48 AM
Liberals want everyone to be treated exactly the same: like mental incompetents.
logis on January 20, 2013 at 9:25 AM
I wonder if she would feel the same if I could deny other people such “rights” as abortion or sodomy because I don’t need or want them?
DavidW on January 20, 2013 at 9:29 AM
You know, I hadn’t thought about it but if there’s a right to commit suicide, there must be a right to the means to commit suicide. A new reason to oppose gun control!
PersonFromPorlock on January 20, 2013 at 9:35 AM
Nice backdoor strawman.
You’re totally ignorant.
davidk on January 20, 2013 at 9:37 AM
Well if we follow her logic then we need to put stricter controls on rat poison and rope not to mention kitchen knives. Probably toilets too since she could drown herself in one and don’t forget bathtubs. In addition no buildings should be built with a roof more than 4 feet off the ground either lest some poor deranged soul fling itself off in a fit of depression.

Lady, nobody needs to hear your sordid life detail.
Depression? Mental disorder? Cope with it. There are a ton of helps out there already, and some with your beloved gumbmint assist programs.
It is one thing to be this stupid, but another to broadcast to the world. Geesh.
Sir Napsalot on January 20, 2013 at 10:30 AM
If she has problems like this then why the frack did we let her into politics? Do we really need more mentally unbalanced individuals involved with running our country?
