Obama’s weekly address: Only strong public support can make gun control happen
“None of this will be easy,” the president says in his weekly address. “Already, we’re seeing pundits, politicians, and special-interest lobbyists calling any attempt at commonsense reform an all-out assault on liberty — not because that’s true, but because that’s how they get higher ratings and make more money. And behind the scenes, they’re doing everything they can to protect the status quo.”
“But this time, it can’t be up to them. It’s got to be up to you,” he says…
“Ask your member of Congress if they support universal background checks and renewing a ban on military-style assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. And if the answer is no, ask them why not. Ask them why an ‘A’ grade from the gun lobby is more important than keeping kids safe in a first grade classroom,” the president says.

I thought it was “thinking about the children” that was going to bring about change.

Oh, I don’t know, Mr. President. Seems like spending cuts have strong public support, but you just seem to ignore that.
Jaibones on January 19, 2013 at 12:14 PM
Not going to happen bho, not with all the American’s who won’t give up their 2nd without a fight!
BTW, today is ‘gun appreciation day’ all over the US! Get out and visit a gun dealer and buy ammo/guns if they have any left!

The poll I read said the children would be safe with him out of office, will he resign?
right2bright on January 19, 2013 at 12:16 PM
I for one am inspired by the way he’s bringing us together. For example, I’ve never felt the need to have a gun in the house before but now I intend to buy one.

I have a question of my own: why is the “smartest man in the world” never able to argue for his position without the use of logical fallacies?

Obama doesn’t give a darn about “public opinion”.
The charlatanic thug cares only about his pockets and his glory.
He hates the middle/lower classes and he hates black kids. Otherwise he’d address Chicago and violence, not guns, which are inanimate objects.

With the ENTIRE media establishment flat out lying and calling .223′s “ASSAULT RIFLES” we have a tough row to hoe…
Every single morning, noon and night on ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN and all daily papers repeat the lies with no compunction whatsoever…seemingly nice, caring and competent people (reporters and producers) that willfully lie, bend and obfuscate to further the cause of socialism and state control…They live among you people…and they are winning…

Going to the oathkeepers march in front of the courthouse today. My sign says: We don’t need the second amendment … Until somebody tries to take it away.

Gotta love how liberals act as if the only people opposed to gun control are some people who work in a building in Fairfax.

I guess gun control ain’t happening then.

So, he thinks he’s “the one” to move public opinion on this after all these years? Not gonna happen.

True dat. You can dream on, but it’s DOA like your father.
You’ll never get enough to repeal the 2nd, at least not this generation.

Ad hominem circumstantial.
Loaded question based on a false dichotomy. The reason why no member of Congress should support a ban on military-style rifles is that very few murders are committed with such rifles. In 2011, more people were murdered by brute human force than by rifles. Moreover, responsible owners of military-style weapons shouldn’t be punished because some deranged lunatic stole his mother’s weapons and went on a killing spree.
Ugh, what a contemptible appeal to emotion.
Baerwulf on January 19, 2013 at 12:37 PM
Ditto, bought one in Oct and 3 more around Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, he’ll never know what, since it was all cash via armslist.com

I am the gun lobby.
None of the things you’re proposing have anything to do with curbing violence or keeping kids safe in first grade classrooms.
It’s all about controlling people and making it more difficult or impossible to resist tyranny.
If you really want to make kids safe in first grade classrooms abolish Gun Free Zones. Children aren’t made safe by rendering them and those who take care of them defenseless.

Just got back from my local gun store, it was jam packed. I never go on the weekend so I don’t know if it is usually that packed or not. But let me tell you this, there were more young ladies in their 20s there than men. I kid you not. There were the typical gun guys like me, and a healthy smattering of grandmothers but I was really surprised with the number of young women. I know I shouldn’t be because I read all the stories about how young women are arming themselves, but to actually see them all crammed into a small gun shop was so heartening. The Democrats are on the wrong side of this and they will lose this one if we just stand up.

Tyrants and wanna-be Tyrannical scum like Obama always fear an armed and prepared citizenry
I wonder why?
TexasJew on January 19, 2013 at 1:05 PM
It won’t be there…and it won’t matter. The MSM will create the illusion that there is the support, and “force” Obama to act.
Remember Beck’s near 1,000,000, people in front of the Capitol?…never happened. Obama said he didn’t pay any attention to it and the MSM didn’t cover it.
Are there still people who don’t understand what is going on??

James O’Keefe strikes again:
Even libs recognize that making their own home a gun-free zone is an invitation to bad guys with guns, yet they think making schools gun-free zones will somehow not be making killing fields for children?

Me too. I’ve owned a gun for many years but never felt the need to become a member of an organization like the NRA. When all this started, I joined the Gun Owners of America.
