Coming soon: Copycat attacks based on Algerian hostage crisis?
“It’s the scale here that we’re talking about that’s astounding. Taking a group like this all at once… It’s really… It’s a nightmarish scenario, to be honest,” Kohlmann said.
He said he suspected bel Mokhtar was trying “to ingratiate himself to some of these other new jihadi movements in West Africa.”
“And what greater way than to do something like this where not only does he get a lot of media attention, but potentially he makes millions of dollars on ransom payments? And that’s what these guys are really motivated by — money,” Kohlman said.

Money? Well sure Jihad is about making money and doing your enemies daughters. Jihad is about booty not just the crap they call religion.

What, did the Algerians shoot them with Barry’s $1T platinum coins?
On a more serious note, I don’t think the terrorists learned that from this event. They may try it again somewhere else, but I think the Algerians have explained quite well that doing this in Algeria means you will die.
As for what the terrorists learn, the next attack will be much more key than this one, because it will depend on what civilized society will do in response to it’s inevitable occurrence. Will civil society be prepared to stop it as it happens, convincing the terrorists these acts are not a worthwhile pursuit, or will they do nothing until the attack is ensconced in hostages and a captured facility and dither impotently afterwards for days, proving to the terrorists this a good idea with an acceptable risk to reward.

The Berbers were the most zealous of the Islamic invaders of Hispania in 710. The berbers w the only group to reenter Spain to challenge the reconquista. This is the fighting that involved El Cid. These Berbers were equally viscious to Christian and moderate Muslim alike. They devried the tolerance practiced by the Caliphate and put Muslim and Christian to the torch. This is what’s happening in The Maghreb right now. The Algerians know it. The Moroccans know it. The Tripolitania Libyans know it. We however don’t have a clue.
