Virginia Democrat pushes gun control while brandishing AK-47 on statehouse floor
Morrissey assured his colleagues the gun was not loaded and pointed it toward the ceiling as he pleaded for Republican House Speaker Bill Howell to help push through a subcommittee the assault weapons ban that Morrissey is proposing.
“A lot of people don’t know that in many locations in the commonwealth, you can take this gun, you can walk in the middle of Main Street loaded and not be in violation of the law,” Morrissey said. “Even though the law right now says you can’t bring this gun into a high school or elementary or middle school, there is nothing from keeping you from walking in front of [an elementary school with a gun].”

Best part of the story.
Don’t ask, don’t tell.

Exhibit A: The people screaming the loudest about the need to disarm law-abiding citizens are – belligerently – the least informed.
LOL

Morrissey is an idiot. How he got elected after being disbarred, running off to Australia and finally returning to Richmond is beyond me.
BacaDog on January 18, 2013 at 1:06 PM
You can do that in a lot of states. It’s not all that popular an option though as you will almost certainly upset people and be detained quickly by the police.

So far, the only folks brandishing weapons since Sandy Hook are the ones who want to take yours away the most.
BobMbx on January 18, 2013 at 1:07 PM
Which is why the bill needs to ban gun free school zones, so that teachers can be armed in case that guy plans on infringing on their rights or the rights of the children in their care.

Finger on the trigger, magazine in place. The most dangerous thing about this gun control debate is ignorant morons like this laying hands on something he doesn’t understand AT ALL!
The Texas Capitol has a CHL express lane right past the metal detectors. People stay pretty polite in our capitol and you’ll NEVER see a Wisconsin style mess.

I would kill to protect my children. I think nearly all parents would commit violence in defense of their kids. Thats a totally rational position.
Why then does it become instantly irrational when someone suggests allowing another adult to use violence to protect your children?
I’m serious. Can one of our libs explain that to me?

And really, teachers shouldn’t just pack heat in the form of handguns, they should have an AR15 mounted on a rack behind their desks.

Did nonpartisan just get outed?
rogerb on January 18, 2013 at 1:13 PM
Notice too he chose one that would not have been deemed an assault weapon under the old ban. Other than the extended magazine and thumb hole stock there is no difference between what he is holding and the run of the mill hunting rifle. What they want to ban here is all semi-autos.

Don’t we all know by now?… doesn’t history teach us?… that shortly after the guns are taken away from the citizens THAT’S WHEN THE REAL SLAUGHTER BEGINS!
Axion on January 18, 2013 at 1:16 PM
In Virginia? This poll is a bigger crock than Te’o's girlfriend.

What a stupid man.
At least his proposal has no chance of advancing, since the House of Delegates is overwhelmingly Republican.
22044 on January 18, 2013 at 1:39 PM
Of course-the question they ask is some variation of “Should access to high-powered, rapid-fire military assault rifles be restricted?”
It’s a complete straw man. The describe a weapon like a SAW, then claim that people want to ban semi-automatic rifles. Complete and utter bull.
PetecminMd on January 18, 2013 at 1:51 PM
The problem here is the ignorance of the people with respect to their rights, not that you can carry a firearm down the street. That part is a feature, not a bug.
GWB on January 18, 2013 at 2:06 PM
Stupid man. They should have demanded that he prove the weapon was clear before waving it around the room. Bet he wouldn’t know how.

Post ban Chinese junk anyway.
NickelAndDime on January 18, 2013 at 2:17 PM
Hey dumbass: if you want to assure us it’s unloaded, try removing the magazine and locking the bolt open.
TexasDan on January 18, 2013 at 2:41 PM
The only differences between pre- and post- ban AKs are the thumbhole stock, flash suppressor, and bayonet lug. Chinese AKs are second only to the Russians. I’ve never seen one that isn’t absolutely reliable.
