Departing aide: Expect a more assertive second-term Obama

Nancy-Ann Deparle, deputy White House chief of staff and one of the highest-ranking women in the White House, is leaving Friday after four years as an architect of Obama’s 2010 healthcare overhaul. …

Deparle predicted more such executive actions in Obama’s second term and more efforts to engage the American people on what is at stake for them.

“I think you will see a more assertive approach to enlisting the American people to help with getting the change that we want from Congress,” she said.

She pointed to a number of executive steps that Obama took last year under the “we can’t wait” program of pushing ahead with items that do not need congressional approval.

“I think you’ll see more of his flexing his authority to use executive action, to take executive action in areas so he can do everything he can,” Deparle said.

Assertive? I think that’s an understatement. He has nothing holding him back now. He thinks himself above the law and all else. The only thing holding him back in his first term was reelection.

Given that his stated priorities – and he’s never lied when announcing liberal intentions before – are gun control, amnesty, and carbon caps, he’ll have to be pretty assertive.

I really don’t see that happening. The Kool-Ade drinkers would expect to be paid. Only the Union thugs would turn out, and that hasn’t been working out too well for them.

This WH does live in a bubble, and the more Obama “asserts” himself the more cold water gets thrown on people and wakes them up.

Two-out-of-three Americans recognize that their constitutional right to own a gun was intended to ensure their freedom.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 65% of American Adults think the purpose of the Second Amendment is to make sure that people are able to protect themselves from tyranny. Only 17% disagree, while another 18% are not sure. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

Not surprisingly, 72% of those with a gun in their family regard the Second Amendment as a protection against tyranny. However, even a majority (57%) of those without a gun in their home hold that view.

Many gun control advocates talk of the right to gun ownership as relating to hunting and recreational uses only.

While there are often wide partisan differences of opinion on gun-related issues, even 54% of Democrats agree with 75% of Republicans and 68% of those not affiliated with either major party that the right to own a gun is to ensure such freedom.

Those numbers are amazing. All of the posturing of the last week hasn’t made much of a dent.
