Poll: New gun laws won’t stop violence
Americans don’t think a new wave of gun laws will prevent future mass shootings, according to a poll released Wednesday.
Only 39 percent of Americans think the new laws would stop gun violence, according to the poll from CNN and TIME, compared to 61 percent who think it will continue. In December 1993, as then-President Bill Clinton was preparing a crime bill with gun control elements, 49 percent thought new laws would stop violence.
The poll also found 55 percent of Americans favored stricter gun laws, including 56 percent who support an assault weapon ban and 56 percent who think existing gun laws make it too easy to buy a gun. Forty percent think the law makes it just difficult enough.

I saw a friend of mine on FB this morning blathering on about the NRA opposing a national gun owner database, and then claimed that this would somehow have prevented the shooting in Newtown and would make it safer for everyone.
How, exactly, would a database of legal gun owners stop violent criminals and law breakers from killing people?
Curiously, he didn’t say. He merely told Congress (read: Republicans) to ‘get their sh*t together.’
Problem solved! All we’ve needed all these years to stop violent criminals from murdering people is a national database tracking the arms and addresses of all legal gun owners!
WELL? WHAT ARE WE WAITING FOR?

Laws are only outlines of consequences for certain behaviors.
They won’t keep someone from committing a specific behavior, just tell you what will happen when you are convicted of breaking that law.
Otherwise the laws on the books we have already would have stopped Sandy Hook and all the other tragedies we’ve seen.
To quote, the “Only Way To Stop A Bad Guy With A Gun Is With A Good Guy With A Gun” Laws won’t do it.
The laws Obama proposes have everything to do with control of the civilian population but not with prevention of the kind of violence we’ve seen displayed.

A government that fears an armed citizenry is no longer “of the people, by the people, for the people” and as such, should be replaced by use of one of the four boxes available to the citizenry.

It’s apparent people have no idea what an assault weapon is. It’s probably a term coined by the treasonous media anyway. I’ve never heard anyone in the military refer to their rifle as an “assault weapon”.
However, like Prohibition, the more restrictions put on something the more people will find a way around them. Stricter gun laws will result in more guns and more criminals seeking to profit.
Liberals always end up making everything worse. The only thing that should be banned are liberals and their sick ideas.

Well I guess it shows that 39 percent of Americans are clueless or just plain stupid. Your choice. I was listening to SH on the way home last night and he had a couple of people on debating gun control. After listening to the anti arguments I decided that you just can’t debate stupid. The other thing that kind of stunned me and I think SH and the pro gun person was that the anti gun person made the claim that if the AWB was still in place F&F would have never happen.

Part of the problem is that most of those people have no idea what our current gun laws are. If you’re ignorant of what the law says, how can you possibly make any judgement about it?

I heard some caller on a talk radio program saying that Obama had only banned magazines that hold for than 10 rounds. He went on to say that if Obama went further then he would be opposed.
Many people have no idea what the President can legally do, and certainly no idea of the abuses of past Presidents. Executive Order 9066 anyone?

That poll shows just how uninformed the people are. If they were presented with the facts and stats, I guarantee you the numbers would be lower. Would also help if CNN would shift from an anti-gun agenda to facts and stats reporting.

CNN polls aren’t worth the electricity it takes to download them. They’re polling a crowd much farther left than the country actually is. When an issue that is known to be about a 50%/50% split countrywide comes up as 75%/25% in their poll you know the numbers are wonky. I saw the poll this morning on support of the President’s policies and it got about 60% approval. That means in reality it has more like 40% approval. Still too damned many idiots but not as many as they’d have us believe.
