None of this will be easy. Already we’re seeing pundits, politicians, and special interest lobbyists warning of a tyrannical, all-out assault on liberty — not because it’s true, but because it gins up fear, or higher ratings, or more revenue for themselves.
The truth is, there’s only one voice powerful enough to make this happen: yours. If you think we’ve suffered too much pain to allow this to continue, put down the paper, turn off the computer, and get your Members of Congress on record. Ask them if they support universal background checks or renewing a ban on military-style assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. And if they say no, ask them why not. Ask them why getting an A-grade from the gun lobby is more important than giving parents some peace of mind when they drop their child off for first grade.
This is the land of the free, and it always will be. As Americans, we are endowed by our Creator with certain inalienable rights that no man or government can take away from us. But we also recognize that along with those rights come responsibilities. Along with our freedom to live our lives as we will comes an obligation to allow others to do the same.

So his argument is that “assault weapons”, magazines holding 11 cartridges and privates sales of guns by law abiding people is not allowing other people to live their lives as they will? How does owning an “assault weapon” with a 30 round magazine stop anyone from living their life as they will?

If you are so confident the people are behind you on this, why don’t you get an amendment to the constitution approved and get it passed by 38 states? You don’t even have enough votes to get it through the Senate, but your base is stupid and just hearing you talk reassures them. You got your photo op on the graves of those children and the children your union teachers made their students write to you, now go golfing or something.

The lie is that he takes a concept and twists it into something that is not its original intent. Of course we have freedoms and responsibilities. And in a moral and free society we do have a personal obligation, in that context, to oblige ourselves to help others.
The lie is that it’s not up to others to designate our personal moral obligation onto others by force or threat. THAT is the antithesis of freedom!

Why did you force gun sellers to sell 20,000 assault weapons to buyers that didn’t clear background checks and then allow those weapons to go across our Southern border to the Mexican Drug cartels?

Because it won’t do anything to prevent criminals from committing violent crime and only prevent responsible citizens from defending themselves. Particularly the young and women. You want to tell a woman she only needs 10 bullets instead of 13? Or that she can’t use an AR-15 for protection in the home instead of a hand gun? Recently a teenage boy in Texas used an AR-15 to protect himself and his sister from a violent criminal breaking into their home.
