Poll: 63% oppose overturning Roe v. Wade
White evangelical Protestants are the only major religious group in which a majority (54%) favors completely overturning the Roe v. Wade decision. Large percentages of white mainline Protestants (76%), black Protestants (65%) and white Catholics (63%) say the ruling should not be overturned. Fully 82% of the religiously unaffiliated oppose overturning Roe v. Wade.
Half of Americans who attend religious services at least weekly favor completely overturning the Roe v. Wade decision, compared with just 17% of those who attend less often.
Republicans are evenly divided over whether the ruling should be overturned: 46% say it should, while 48% say it should not. By wide margins, Democrats (74% to 20%) and independents (64% to 28%) oppose overturning Roe v. Wade.
There is no gender gap in opinions about Roe v. Wade: Nearly identical percentages of women (64%) and men (63%) oppose reversing the decision.

And why would they? It would be an admission that the welfare state is a failure and that people must take responsibility for their lives. Always remember, the beginnings of nanny-statism start with the unraveling of the family.

63% of Catholics must have figured out they can have all the abortions they want, then just go to confession and be absolved of their sins. They’re pretty clever.

We should legalize retroactive abortions.
Is a baby only a distinct being…when, exactly? After it can survive outside the womb? Medical science will soon make a fetus viable after a very short period in utero. Anti-abortion groups ought to fund research to enable fetuses to survive outside the womb after only a couple weeks; certainly people would see what’s going on after they realize that the fetus is actually human being…

Beginning to think this might be a lost cause; I have not seen a lot of data suggesting that we have are close to reaching a tipping point in the pro-life side.
These days I see just the opposite; more and more people either identifying as pro-choice or “abortion under some circumstances” types.

Here’s hoping everyone could pass on their DNA when they plan to and there’s mutual agreement and desire to do so, without legal intimidation due to religious morals of others.

Yeah it is so wonderful when a population murders its offspring.
Yeah they are about as dumb as you and the population that doesn’t even realize that abortion wouldn’t suddenly become illegal if Roe was overturned. It would just reside back with the states and the people where it belongs.

This is a lost cause. The GOP will continue its journey outbound into the political wilderness until it comes to grips with that reality.

You really are a dumb &*&9 if you think that the opposition to abortion is based only on religious morals. If you don’t want to pass on your DNA, abstain or use your own bought and paid for birth control or sterilize yourself.
The GOP will continue in the wilderness unless people stop using the government as daddy. If idiots care more about an abortion(which is entirely preventable) and the debt and ruination of this country; then they deserve the Democrats in office.

They’re scrambling again to figure out some bumper-sticker ready propaganda slogan.
Planned Parenthood abandons term “pro-choice”
Meanwhile:
INC on January 16, 2013 at 4:36 PM
Very large majority of it is. You failed to read even the summary:
The more religious the more pro-life. That’s always been the case and while the percentage of pro-choice within religious community is increasing, it’s also increasing at the same pace as the religious become less religious.
Also nobody can see into future and birth control is not flawless. If you have a time machine or flawless birth control please share. I might change my mind about need for abortion.

That would mean they would have to acknowledge that they really are the anti-science party and ignore scientific fact when it is politically expedient to do so.

I am sure that Lester is also ignorant that is was “religious” people who opposed slavery as well.
Abortion is akin to slavery. We are treating a child like property to dispose of at will.
THe first feminists would be appalled by what not only we have done to our children but the women who have to seek counseling because having an abortion has been horrible victimizing.
Or the fact that in other country, sex selected abortion are becoming the norm, and our wonderful feminists don’t care about the fact that our gender is getting decimated.
melle1228 on January 16, 2013 at 4:50 PM
Then we need to see the polling reflect that.
Pro-choice positions have consistently been polling at 50% or more for years now. Where is the swing in the opposite direction to support your theory?

It’s not feigning weakness—they’re losing ground so they’re scrambling to find something to stop that.
Propaganda is designed to cover up truth. When its lies are exposed, it shapeshifts and scrambles to try to come up with something else.
NARAL has been playing the semantics game for years.
First: National Association for the Repeal of Abortion Laws
(Notice all the words written out)
next: National Abortion Rights Action League
(Repeal gone, now it’s Rights–ah, good American word)
next: National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League
(Whoops, we better stick in the word reproductive to hide that we’re advocates of child-killing)
now: NARAL Pro-Choice America
(Let’s just drop the words and go straight to the acronym. Maybe no one will remember the origin and they’ll only see the word Pro-Choice)

Flawed question since they are dumb enough to think that overturning Roe means that abortions will be outlawed. They have no concept of what the decision actually means or how it illegally usurps power that belongs to the State and instead gives that power to the Feds.

How’s come we don’t have TV commercials that show a baby squirming as it’s being killed, then dismembered? Is it illegal to show it? If not, that would change a LOT of minds.

I oppose overturning Roe v Wade for one major reason:
The number of liberals alive today is vastly smaller than it would have been, otherwise.
If liberals are in it to win, then so am I. Let them abort themselves into oblivion while we fight the only effective mechanism they have to propagate their ideology: the public school system.
mintycrys on January 16, 2013 at 5:23 PM
Polls are almost 2 years old. The polling outfit Jill Stanek references is Gallup which has since shown a slight flip in position:
http://www.gallup.com/poll/147734/Americans-Split-Along-Pro-Choice-Pro-Life-Lines.aspx
Again, the Pro-Life movement is stuck at that 45-50% marker, at best.
There needs to be a break in direction for change to happen.
