House Democrats aim to repeal the debt ceiling
One way out the debt ceiling showdown: getting rid of the debt ceiling altogether. A group of House Democrats is introducing legislation Wednesday that would repeal the federal debt limit.
Reps. Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.), Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.), Hank Johnson (D-Ga.), Jim Moran (D-Va.), Keith Ellison (D-Minn.) and Peter Welch (D-Vt.) are behind the effort. Some of the same lawmakers attempted to repeal the debt limit in 2011. Given Republican control of the House, it is incredibly unlikely that this legislation will pass.

Great idea. It’s about time we fixed this debt ceiling debate problem. We won’t have to worry about downgrades or default now, right?

We’ll never be broke — if we can print more checks at a moment’s notice.

Oh, wait. Hank Johnson‘s in the group? Okay, this just might work.

Man,
I want one of those “Democrat Credit Cards” that never have to be repaid because we can just raise the credit limit and use part of the newly available credit to make our minimal payment on the credit card.
Yeah…sign me up. Just keep upping my credit limit and I’ll kick back a piece of it as my minimal payment due…and PAHHHRRRTTAAAAAY!
That will never lead to problems down the road, right? Being a good fiscal steward isn’t in the Liberal Democrat lexicon or thought process.

Of course my rep is one of them leading the charge.
I would like to get all these people in a room and ask them where they think this money comes from. Eventually even the people you keep taxing run out.

At least they are talking about the debt…. the media and the other dems are focused on shiny objects like guns and immigrants.
Bensonofben on January 16, 2013 at 8:48 AM
Yes. I am very familiar with Schakowsky. She openly advocates for outright nationalization of the the insurance industry and the federal government “hiring” unemployed people (one guy digs a ditch, the other fills it up, etc.) in massive, soviet-style “make work” programs. A complete nutjob and economic illiterate.

Boehner will never let that happen /sarc…he’s probably crying and rolling over already
Dingbat63 on January 16, 2013 at 8:54 AM
Actually I’d say they are trying to eliminate the debt ceiling to get everyone to stop talking about the debt…to pretend it doesn’t exist.
Forward!

Let’s just hope that they all don’t show up at a meeting in Guam to discuss this matter.
blammm on January 16, 2013 at 9:00 AM
They are running up massive ruinous debt so that the people will finally agree to massive tax increases to ‘fix’ the problem and save the country.
Bastards.

Our country’s economic viability is in Hank Johnson’s hands.
And people wonder why were arming ourselves to the teeth.

Oh I didn’t say that out of concern for them. I’m just concerned about Guam being upside down in the Pacific. Hank Johnson would drown in a bathtub if given the opportunity.

When running as a candidate they are very concerned about the fiscal debt…once elected oink, oink, to the trough.
