Lisa Murkowski: We shouldn’t use the debt ceiling as leverage to cut spending
Murkowski, at a News-Miner editorial board meeting on Jan. 9, said she doesn’t think the debt limit should be used for political leverage. Since borrowing will be required to pay off debts the country has already incurred, she said it would reflect badly on the U.S. to leave its willingness to pay those bills in doubt…
Murkowski said not all of her colleagues in the Senate will say it out loud, but she believes most agree that failing to raise the debt limit would harm perception of the country.
“If you incur an obligation, you have a responsibility to pay for that,” Murkowski said.

It is U.S. the people aginst them now.
They think we will not fight.

They do intend to over throw our Constitution and take our freedom now.
Stand Our Ground.

She’s in touch with what other countries think about us because they have hereditary peerage too.

Geez, is this hunk of human debris still lurking about??

GOP should say fine and up the limit. When the 2013 budget comes out, spending needs to be locked to revenue. Period. That is how you win this ‘debate’ – it worked in 1947 and it can work again now.

Once again, I ask: What point does a debt-ceiling serve if we always have to raise it when we reach it?
Bitter Clinger on January 15, 2013 at 12:55 PM
It’s Murkowski, what did you expect her to say?

Wow the disconnect between borrowing and spending is strong in this one.

To borrow money is a promise to pay it back. We have a responsibility to not make promises we can’t keep. Borrowing is not only robbing Peter to pay Paul, but racking up additional interest charges to boot. So when Murkowski parrots Obama about paying our bills, does she appreciate the import of what she’s saying?

And to think, those crazy right wingers almost got rid of this gem./

Bernacke wants to do away with the debt ceiling altogether.

Ah, wisdom from the Arctic RINO.
Someone needs to use something as leverage to handle the overspending of the federal government. Or maybe not. Murky’s what? late 60s? Hey, if she is like most of her generation she’s saying “Yes, I know its farked but by the time it gets critical I’ll be dead anyway. F everyone else.”
Yes baby boomer ex-hippies – I’m looking right at you.
CorporatePiggy on January 15, 2013 at 1:18 PM
We’re not paying for it. We’re borrowing on the promise that future generations will pay it back (e.g., enjoy a lower standard of living than their fore bearers in order to service the debt).

They never talk about spending…
right2bright on January 15, 2013 at 1:38 PM
Okay, so the ones who spent it can pay for it…forfeit your pay, and have the other leaders do the same…we will give you a $3,000 a month stipend to help you get by…allow you a bridge loan, or extension on your house mortgage for the three years…thanks for the offer.

Leave her alone … this doesn’t mean she’s not a team player!
When a CONSERVATIVE goes against the party policy – that’s treason!
But a member of the establishment can say whatever they want depending on how they feel.

Democrats used the fiscal cliff as leverage to increase spending.
You are a hack, Lisa Murkowski.
