NY Post
It’s come to this
Nearly 300 NYU co-eds joined the site’s service last year seeking a “mutually beneficial” arrangement with rich older men — a 154 percent jump over 2011.
It was the second-highest number of new members for any college in the country.
Hundreds more young women from Columbia, Cornell and Syracuse universities also have recently signed up for the service, the site said.
“I’ll admit that I’ve thought about doing something like that,” said a Columbia junior who gave only her first name, Karen.

Whores.

Pretty sad.
I spent this semester at NYU. Lots of overprivileged liberal kids engaging in hand wringing white guilt.
blatantblue on January 15, 2013 at 3:11 PM
The difference between this and outright prostitution? Semantics.

Small Business? LOL.

Ayam Kampus.
And yeah, don’t search it. It’s a play on Indonesian for the free range chickens that roam the slums (“Ayam Kampung”).

No, clearly something needs to be done about the quality and cost of education. There is no logical reason for bloated costs of tuition. The first step is eliminating all government student aid. Anything the government gives out is just gravy for the universities who then charge the actual costs to the students on top of it.

Entreprewhores?

Thanks a lot, Sandra Fluke…

Except for the likely adultery on the part of the sugar daddy I’m ok with this. Two consenting adults who both get something from the arrangement.
Charlemagne on January 15, 2013 at 3:24 PM
Government creates a lot of whores, doesn’t it?

Did Sandra Fluke know about this option?

Feminism = Daddy pays, then Sugar Daddy pays, and then, when all used up, Uncle Sam pays. Who needs men anyways?
Flange on January 15, 2013 at 3:32 PM
Some smaller businesses than others.
MechanicalBill on January 15, 2013 at 3:32 PM
More power to ‘em! People should be allowed to take advantage of their advantages as long as everyone is a consenting adult in the activity.
HondaV65 on January 15, 2013 at 3:32 PM
Yeah, like your girlfriends was “unused” before you met her.
HondaV65 on January 15, 2013 at 3:32 PM
Feminists are AGAINST Sugar-arrangements, they’re some of the most radical opponents … believing that all sex is rape – and especially this kind of sex.
You SoCons – you don’t even know that, on this issue, you’re perfectly aligned with the Progressive Feminist Man haters.

Job Creation?
Oil Can on January 15, 2013 at 3:36 PM
Perhaps past feminists were against this, but not New Age/Modern.
They’re all for women using their sexuality in any way they want to advance themselves.

I’d like to be adopted by a couple of female adult film stars. Seth has two mommies!

The only difference between friends with benefits and friend$ with benefit$ is the spelling.

Are they required to take a course in “Situational Ethics, Social Deception, and The Lessons of Honora Ornstein (Diamond Lil)?
Fallon on January 15, 2013 at 3:47 PM
Yeah, we all noticed how upset the feminists were over that whole Clinton/Lewinsky thingy.

This has been around for a long time. Here’s the plot from the 1962 “sex” comedy, Boy’s Night Out, which starred Tony Randall, James Garner, Howard Duff and Kim Novak (as the 25 year-old student they “hire” to live in the apartment):
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0055809/
Saw this movie on Turner Classic a few weeks ago. The four guys decide to do it because they see the boss of one of them with a sugar baby of his own. It was pretty amusing how Kathy manipulates the men to fulfill what each of them want in the relationship (good food, conversation and fixing things around the house) without having sex with any of them.
BTW, was surprised to see single-guy Garner tell the married guys he didn’t want to be their “beard” when renting the apartment. I had heard that term recently on TV in reference to a woman who was pretending to be the girlfriend of a gay man, and thought it was a recent slang term. Instead, in 1962, it meant a guy covering for his friend while the friend had an affair.

Anyone who pays $60,000 a year to get a theater degree is an idiot, and anyone who expects to get scholarships to study theater for 4 years is also an idiot.
NYU is one of the world’s worst universities for financial aid. They tell you right up front when you visit that they don’t give full scholarships to anyone, and only the very top of the accepted class gets anything at all. They rope you into believing that only a degree from NYU will get you that coveted job on Wall Street or Broadway or Sixth Avenue, and then you get the bill and say OMG. My son applied there and I was actually relieved that he didn’t get in. In 2011, NYU got 42,000 applications.

Dang. And here I went and got student loans to help me pay for my college education.
When I was at Kent State for grad school eons ago there was an article in the student newspaper profiling young coeds who stripped in clubs up in Cleveland to pay their way. They said that they were doing it because they were taking home about a grand a week including tips, which not only paid for all their school expenses, room, and board, but was leaving them with tidy nest eggs for after graduation. They were all using aliases and had no intention of telling anyone how they were paying for school, planning to leave it all behind them when they graduated. I wonder if they were able to?
Bob's Kid on January 15, 2013 at 3:54 PM
Good gravy. Even if the Internet, cell phones, and TV all failed tomorrow and we were forced to return to the right way, we’d have millions of young people suffering from culture shock.
We’re more screwed up than a tribe of illiterate bongo-thumpers where arranged marriages are the method for pairing off.
MelonCollie on January 15, 2013 at 3:57 PM
Unless they had an exceptionally lousy experience or picked up a STD, probably. Memories of “crazy college days” get buried mighty darn fast once you graduate. I can barely remember most of my teachers for crying out loud, and the craziest thing I did was date a cougar.
MelonCollie on January 15, 2013 at 3:59 PM
Your ass might keep your ears warm, but it’s a terrible place to do your thinking.
Flange on January 15, 2013 at 4:03 PM
So is the school overpriced, or the sex underpriced?
You’re a theater major, Ashely. Better get used to disappointment.
TexasDan on January 15, 2013 at 4:08 PM
This type of business transaction should be investigated, as this is earned income that is obviously not being taxed.
