Let’s pass pretend gun control
What we can do is pass a law banning a bunch of made-up things that sound scary, and many gun control proponents already have great ideas along this line. For instance, I read a column in which Howard Kurtz mentioned a ban on high-magazine clips — we can certainly do without something that nonsensical. And I’ve heard the press before mention armor-piercing hollow points and plastic guns (actually, I think we already banned that made-up weapon in the ’80s). And as long as the NRA and Wayne LaPierre go apoplectic about it (“This ban on sorcerer-enchanted guns is just a slippery slope toward eliminating all witch-hexed weaponry!”), gun control proponents won’t know the difference between this and actual gun control. And this will help protect our most vulnerable people out there: politicians. Because long after the gun control advocates move on to other things, like who they want to tax next, gun owners will still be annoyed by any actual gun control legislation. One of the greatest fears politicians have is seeing an angry guy with lots of guns charging down the street, because they know he’s probably on his way to commit an act of voting.
Of course, with this idea, absolutely nothing will be done to keep criminals and madmen from obtaining guns, but that’s the effect of every other gun control law, so we’re just reaching this end in a much cheaper and less messy fashion. Because what are the options if we actually want to do something to make people safer? Let law abiding citizens like teachers carry in schools? That’s just insane. Solving the problem of guns with more guns is just another crazy idea by those people who take that “liberty” idea to dangerous extremes and cause all the other civilized countries to make fun of us. Instead, let’s get to work banning those unicorn horn-tipped bullets and feeling safer.

Let’s practice pretend birth control.
Oh wait, they already do–which accounts for all the abortions.

Ban assault nail guns.

The laws on the books are BS and aren’t enforced. Even holder, obama, and others in this administration are in the business of selling guns to the the cartels.
Chicago is a joke. Strict gun laws and lots of murders.
Violate the “existing” laws and get your a** locked up for a long, long, time. Enough of this BS.

Let’s not and say we did.

The government doesn’t want to stop criminals with guns.
Let’s pass a law declaring it illegal to murder someone with a gun. That should work out…oh wait….
A government that fears an armed citizenry is a government that needs replacing.

Will “bang bang” be like “rape rape”?

Ok Gun Control freaks, you win.
Let’s get some legislation in that will ban red phaser beams. I have always felt that the blue phaser beams looked better and I really hated the way red phaser beams use against Val.
Banning them will make the world safer and make Kirk look better.

He kind of has a point.
So far in MA I’ve heard the following.
Ban high capacity ammunition.
Ban fully automatic firearms.
Ban high capacity clips.
Ban higher than 50 cal sniper pistols.
and the best for last.
Create crime free zones.
Require background checks for illegal firearm purchases.
Yes, they are that stupid.
I’m on board with all of the above. In fact I really like the possibility of the crime free zones. Imagine how safe you would feel when you know it is illegal for the criminal to ply their trade in the area.

One of the best articles I’ve read since this whole “mass shootings must stop” thing went off the rails.

No, blue are really dangerous. I see a brownish yellow spot when looking at white paper because I caught a reflection from a blue one. I wasn’t wearing safety glasses but the thing was not supposed to have been powered at the time.

I have a better idea — let’s ignore pretend journalism.

Please understand that I’m not disbelieving you – but could you provide a link for both of those quotes.
I feel that if you want to show pure idiocy of the Left, you want to be sure of your sources.
BTW, this has always been a classic in showing the idiocy of the gun grabbers an their self-defense denial (Gun-free) zones.

No because it was on Boston Public Radio during some sort of discussion of what could be done after the Sandy Hook incident. I thought the guy was joking but they discussed it as if it was a valid thought. The other stuff is mostly from gun buddies of mine so who knows if it’s valid thoughts from actual politicians. I suspect it’s mostly chatter from local anti-gun groups at the town and city levels.
My spouse thinks the BPR thing was a joke but I’m not convinced because it’s a hard left and very pro BO radio channel. Sadly it’s the only station my radio picks up for some reason. It’s an old car and the radio has been flaky for a year or so.

Lately when I catch news on TV, I hear a laugh track in the back of my mind. I’ve been thinking to see a doctor about it, but I’ve been kind of busy and am learning to live with it.

If you google “declare crime free zones” you will get quite a few links including this one about a city in CA.

So I guess it’s not quite urban legend.
As to the other. I could find no references and he may have been referring to finding illegal guns during a background check. In other words the background check of you would find the the firearm you were purchasing was in fact illegal. I find a lot on that so I’ll consider that I didn’t quite understand his point.

Ban 500 round magazines…I mean come on, who really needs those?
Apologies to MII 50 cal owners.
Ban any gun that has more then 17 barrels…I mean come on.
Ban stupid politicians from acting concerned rather then performing their sworn duties (balance a budget).

That’s fine – I can easily believe that Leftist-Oppressives would say something like Requiring background checks for illegal firearm purchases.
It’s just that if you post that somewhere else people will challenge you on it. Using those kinds quotes showing leftist idiocy are a great way of turning Saul Lewinsky’s rules for tools back on them.

Howard Kurtz wrote a very nice column on the need for the media to talk more about gun control. And by “nice,” I of course mean barking-at-the-moon-nutso.
Anyway, he wrote this on Dec 17th:
This was after quoting Rupert Murdoch asking when politicians would find the courage to ban automatic weapons, and before questioning whether it was time to set limits on high-magazine clips.
So hear we are nearly a month later, when Petraeus and Broadwell are barely even memories, and the non-stop chatter of clueless journalists for a month about how they need to lead the country in the direction of gun control has flooded the media every single day.
And yet, I can nearly guarantee that the typical journalist could study all the above and not even be able to pick out what Kurtz said that makes no sense at all.
So if they are that clueless about the subject, why do they think any one else should listen to them?
