Fracking might produce jobs and make America stronger, there’s your leftist nightmare.

Bishop on January 13, 2013 at 9:07 PM

After you cut through all the bullsh*t, that's the bottom line.

* Reduces CO2 sharply? Doesn't matter.
* Produces far less in the way of air pollutants like sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, soot, and mercury? Doesn't matter.
* Shifting from coal to gas would “reduce the overall likelihood of health problems affecting the nervous system, inner organs, and the brain"? Doesn't matter.

What matters is shutting down affordable U.S. energy supplies, redistributing wealth, and downsizing America.

The poor and middle class will be hardest hit? Screw 'em.

Here is the problem I see with these projections of a 100 year supply of natural gas.

From the USGS web site. http://www.usgs.gov/newsroom/article.asp?ID=2893

The Marcellus Shale contains about 84 trillion cubic feet of undiscovered, technically recoverable natural gas

From their web site. http://www.eia.gov/naturalgas/annual/pdf/table_001.pdf

Total US consumption 24,384,556
Million of cubic feet.

Correct me if I am wrong but that is just a little more than 100 years of supply. I have looked at this several times since I saw a discussion elsewhere. Always the same answer.

It's time to take a second look at LP in automobiles.
What about an LP hybrid?
My favorite idea is an automobile utilizing an LP or diesel generator at constant speed and relatively low HP for an electric final drive (not too unlike a diesel electric locomotive). Not certain if a bank of capacitors would sufficiently replace batteries in this application. Any engineers out there willing to comment?
