“Push her off the roof of the building, kill her! Why are you keeping her?”
Sumanjeet says people kept telling her to get an ultrasound check and abort all four of her daughters. They told her she wouldn’t have enough money for a suitable dowry. Although Sumanjeet wasn’t quite sure how she was going to raise them, she knew it was a crime to get rid of them.
“Why are they killing girls, while they’re still in the womb? It’s a sin for which they’ll have to be answerable to God. Small, cute girls like a doll. They kill her in the womb? It’s a sin,” Sumanjeet weeps…
Even though the practice is outlawed, 300,000 to 600,000 female fetuses are aborted every year in India because of the preference for boys, according to a 2011 study by The Lancet. And the discrimination that begins while in the womb continues throughout a girl’s life.
Women’s rights activist and Supreme Court lawyer Kirti Singh says there is a marked difference between how many parents treat their daughters and their sons. She says girls aren’t given the same kind of food, they’re not educated in the same manner, and they’re only raised to become someone’s wife.

Oh. I thought they were talking about Rachel Maddow.

I have always said that for all those feminists who cry about how tough they have it here in the US, I would love to show them the real world of women that need the help.

That’s a lot of angry men running around the entire Asian region who are someday going to go explode on everyone else. Good times.

Can’t kill every male in India. Although, a process of decimation might be effective. Every 10th man convicted of rape gets offed publicly. And if you’re accused, you don’t know what your number is.
The trick then, is to start convicting them.

They’re pikers compared to the USA abortion mill. Margaret Sanger would be very proud that her ethnic cleansing practices are still being followed.

There’s a war on women alright, but it sure as hell isn’t here.

Jackie Chan was saying that the U.S. is the most corrupt country in the world. Ladies and gentlemen, I think we have a new contender.

I am always impressed at people of conviction around the world who stand up for what is right even at the risk of their own lives.
The Christians of Egypt and Iran immediately come to mind.
God bless this woman. She is their “sister.” She has true courage.

Oh for heavens sake, these whining Indian wiminz don’t realize what hardship is, why, in America our wiminz had to pay for their own birth control pills for years until Our Lord & Savior Obama (may peace be unto him) crushed the evil white mans grip!
These Indian wiminz don’t know what hardship is!

But all cultures are equally valid, right?

They follow reproductive practices that make the leftists green with envy.
You can bet the left would push sex-selective abortion here if they thought they could get away with it. To them abortion is a matter of convenience anyway, so why not use it for these little inconveniences, too?
India doesn’t yet realize what happens to their male population when the number of women to marry and reproduce dwindles to nothing. Ask China.

Corruption has a specific meaning, and it isn’t “devaluing females to the point of justifying murder.” This is just plain immoral.
Regardless of how one feels about organized religion, one should at least be thankful that our country’s founding was guided by Christian principles.
Splashman on January 13, 2013 at 8:28 PM
Yes. Just wanted to point out that such problems are the result of an immoral mentality. Focusing on the repercussions of immorality can achieve results, but it’s putting the cart before the horse. Everyone would like to believe there’s a way to avoid the repercussions without admitting their behavior is immoral — and they will expend enormous effort in a vain attempt to do so. Persuading people of their immoral mentality is harder in the short term, but is much more effective long-term.

China and India, right next to each other, with 30 million surplus men each.
What could go wrong?

Deuuugh, forgot about that. Oh yeah, and don’t both of them have nukes?
This CANNOT end peacefully.

The ChiComs don’t take second place when it comes to murdering children.

It isn’t just morality, but the interplay between mores and modernity.
Suttee (the burning of widows at the husband’s funeral), which the British put to the sword, was always pure barbarism special to India, but dowries have a long and practical history across the world, including certain landed circles of the Christian world (though not derived from New Testament doctrine, obviously). The Indians, for some reason, have seen no reason to do away with it, even though they were brought out of the medieval period centuries ago through the British Empire.
So you have this modern situation where men and women are increasingly equal in terms of potential economic value (like anywhere else since the Industrial Revolution), but the men have colluded to keep alive a tradition from when a person’s worth was how long and how far they could drag a plow, even though the only farm they’re plowing is Farmville and they’re pocketing the cash.
Basically, it’s like an engagement ring, except the person earning *less* is supposed to provide it, it’s involuntary, enforced by the ad-hoc equivalent of a union of men, and policed by murder.
And remember, India is considered one of the better 2nd world countries.
HitNRun on January 13, 2013 at 9:29 PM
Not a bi g fan of dowries; however, it ‘s worth noting that a large portion of the dowry (at least in South India) is kept by the woman getting married.
It is to ensure that if something happens to her husband she’ll be taken care of (and not be a burden to her husband’s family).
It’s not money that the new in-laws use to pay for a fancy vacation.
JadeNYU on January 13, 2013 at 9:51 PM
A very apt – and grim – summary.
Too bad you’ll never hear the feminazis speak up on THIS injustice!
MelonCollie on January 13, 2013 at 9:53 PM
Suttee still occasionally takes place, and a much milder form does too, in some areas. Widows are exiled from their families and deprived of possessions. Christian missionaries go to the widows and minister to them, bringing them food and human contact.
Western civilization is fragile. We must do all we can to protect it. Oh, and get sone guns to those women being raped in Delhi. This is yet another reason to preserve the 2A. When the government protects your attackers, you need the means to fight back.

Something like 90% of Down Syndrome babies in the U.S. are killed in utero. They want boys, we want perfection.

Not if she’s the wife the family wants to keep, at least.
In 2010, there were 8391 reported cases of dowry death in the country. That works out to a shocking one death every hour approximately. Bride-burning is on the increase – just a decade ago, in 2000, there were 6995 cases. — Times of India
