Federal report: Climate change could raise temperatures by 10 degrees
“We can start with strict carbon pollution standards for power plants and we must significantly expand investments in community resiliency to protect people and the economy from the gathering storms — and floods, droughts, wildfires, and heat waves,” said Browner, who is now a senior fellow with the liberal Center for American Progress.
The report finds that U.S. temperatures will continue rising 2 degrees F to 4 degrees F in most areas in the coming decades, and calls for effort to increase resilience to changes that cannot be avoided.
But it’s unclear how high temperatures will climb. The report provides a range of 3 degrees F to 5 degrees F by century’s end if global emissions are reduced sharply after 2050, and up to 10 degrees F if they’re not.
Average U.S. temperatures have risen roughly 1.5 degrees F since 1895, and more than 80 percent of that increase has occurred since 1980, the report concludes.

Good, it’s cold outside anyway. Could they arrange for it to start tomorrow?

So we’re good for st lest 500 years or so?
catmman on January 12, 2013 at 8:09 PM
I hope so. My winter heating bill sucks.

Could, being the operative word. What’s the MOE? -/+ 10 degrees?
Logus on January 12, 2013 at 8:11 PM
And yet somehow even the IPCC has given up peddling global warming. I guess now we’re down to national warming.
%$%$# Liberals just won’t give up ANYTHING.

True or not – I DO NOT CARE.

Is this like the federal analysis that all people aged 55-59 will die in 2028?

Heck, that’s just the adjustment range between the raw and ‘corrected’ temperature records they keep.

Did they mention that the cause was due to all the “hot air” spewing by gubmint and elected officials? Tell ‘em all to just stfu, please.
stukinIL4now on January 12, 2013 at 8:22 PM
Lies, damned lies, and government-sponsored reports. The actual bottom line of the report: Give us more money, we’ll give you more reports.

Just more bullsh*t…

I’m glad to see I’m not the only one who would welcome the warmer temps.
davidk on January 12, 2013 at 8:29 PM
Is it just me, or has it gotten a lot hotter since the gubmint started spending so much money?

Ah yes, Carol Browner, the czarina that Obama used behind the scenes to rule the EPA, since there was no way that scrutiny of her past and her socialist activism and that of her husband would pass Congressional approval.
She’ll use climate change or any other pseudo-scientific BS at her disposal to put the rest of us in chains.
obladioblada on January 12, 2013 at 8:34 PM
As long as the Union of Concerned Scientists is involved, the report is strictly political bunkem. These A$$ hats won’t stop until they get all our money and regulate us into oblivion.
Old Country Boy on January 12, 2013 at 8:39 PM
If we change the way we measure temperature then it won’t go up at all. Maybe we could even bring it down a little. Like how they’ve massaged the unemployment numbers.
Flange on January 12, 2013 at 8:54 PM
This report obviously relies on positive feedbacks. Stupid. I hope someone signed their name to this so that they can be humiliated by it within the next several years.

Still boggles the mind to have people who are sure the world evolved for billions of years in all sorts of temperatures in heat and down to ice but just 200+ years of the slice of human activity can upset the whole system for thousands of years.

Absolute horse malarkey. CO2 response is logarithmic to the power of 2. You get about 1 degree rise for every doubling of atmospheric CO2. Every ton you emit has LESS impact than the previous ton emitted. MOST of the impact if atmospheric CO2 from pre-industrial levels doubles has already been felt. We would have to DOUBLE the amount of CO2 to get another degree of rise and then DOUBLE it again to get another degree.
There is no possible way we are going to see 10 degrees of rise. That is just against physics. It’s baloney. It is designed to scare people into giving up their money and having a lower standard of living.
In fact, this “study” is not only a crime against science, it borders on being criminal if our government is actually using it to steal from the people.

If it weren’t for all the Urban Heat Islands caused by mis-placed thermometer locations. Most of the warming would disappear.
Dasher on January 12, 2013 at 10:20 PM
CO2 doesn’t drive temperature… that’s the Sun’s job.

It’s 20 below where I am right now….
Could use some global warming/climate change/whatever the crap it’s called now.
mjk on January 13, 2013 at 1:25 AM
Since this is a federal study, is it safe to assume temps will decrease by 10 degrees instead? Unexpectedly, of course.
iwasbornwithit on January 13, 2013 at 1:31 AM
That explains why it’s bear-ass cold in LA right now.

Global warming is regarded by the Sheeple as true, by those who can thing for themselves as false, and by the power mad and the money grubbers as … … useful.
